hi, i’ve had my phone for almost two months, and since the start, every now and then, apps started crashing (usually starts with tiktok or instagram, but i believe that is just because those are the apps that i use the most), and when that happens, any app that i try to open crashes in a couple of minutes if not immediately. Restarting the phone stops this, but after a few days (and sometimes i turn it off) it does it again.
I’ve contacted costumer service, uninstalled a few apps and installed the newest update. This seemed to have solved it (haven’t had any crashes for about 3 weeks), but today it did it again, any tips?
I had an similar problem on an non-Fairphone months ago. Can you go to Options/Apps/Show all apps/Google Play Services/storage and cache/flush cache. To be safe perform a reboot and check the behavior again. Apps still crashing after that?
i do clear the cache every now and then, especially after crashes, i guess it does help, but one time i did experience a crash right after that (did not reboot tho) do i need to keep doing that?
Your issue does not seem to be normal. You can try safe mode and see if it remains. Do you use an SD card and how is it formatted as internal extension or external addition?
I have the exact same problem with my Fairphone 6. Sometimes I can use the phone normally for days without crashing, but when it happens, it usually stays that way for a while and sometimes makes the phone completely unusable. Restarting the phone does not consistently fix the crashes.
I have had this issue with TikTok and Instagram as well, but it also happens sometimes with Google Maps (which is really unfortunate during navigation), my Keyboard App (FUTO, making typing impossible sometimes as the Keyboard opens and closes sporadically) and my image gallery.
Sometimes with the crashes, I am experiencing a weird black & nameless window in the App Switcher, although that might also be a problem with my Launcher (Niagara Launcher). I have tried switching to the default Launcher for a few weeks, but the crashes persisted.
I am also on Android 15 with the newest FP6 firmware as of today. Also not using an SD card.
I cleared the Google Service Cash and rebooted now, if this helps avoiding these crashes in the long run, I will give an update. At least it’s nice to hear that I’m not the only one with this issue, it has been driving me insane the past months and I haven’t had the time to work on this with the support.
The same is happening for me. Sometimes the system becomes unstable and the apps crash to a black screen where it does not respond unless I lock and unlock the phone. I think it happens with any app (it happened with Instagram, Tiktok, Tidal, Firefox).
Last time it occured battery was low when it started to be unstable and connecting the charger “solved” it. I will try to note when it occurs to see if it is always like this.
I wanted to give a short update and some additional info:
Clearing the Google Service Cache did not help in multiple cases (I have had about 5 tries with this in the last 2 weeks, with Instagram, Tik Tok and the Outlook app). Clearing the cache of the affected app also didn’t fix anything.
The issue is also not limited to the one app at a time, as other apps also often become unresponsive once the phone enters this buggy state.
I have had this issue pretty much since I first got the phone in August.
@marc_fp6 I will try connecting the charger the next few crashes if I have one available, although the crashes did not specifically occur on low battery percentages in my case.
i see that this is a somewhat common problem then, as it kept happening both to me and others i can rule out that being a specific app or launcher that is causing the issue.
for the keyboard issue i didn’t mention it, but it was there.
i was also wrong about it getting better reliably after restart, sometimes it does it, sometimes it does not.
also thank you to everyone that is responding, i feel seen.
