you also have the problem, when I scan a QR code with the normal camera APP, the link is always not valid, if I load the same code via a QR code app from the Playstore, the link works.
the scanned link for the normal camera is actually correct from what I can see, but unfortunately it doesn’t work
I dont use the camea app to scan QR codes and neither any extra App. I use my browser (many have this option) or there is a quick setting tile when you pull from the top, to scan QR codes.
Same issue here. I just got my fairphone 6 with e/OS preinstalled from murena. The phone is on e/OS 3.0.4 which is the latest version (as at 2025-09-02).
The other issue (so far…) with the camera is that the pinch zoom does not work. Both of these issues are obviously not acceptable for any phone nowadays, let alone a phone in this price segment.
I tried the e/OS test channel in the “Developer Options” in Settings (suggested in another thread regarding the zoom issue) and installed 3.1.1-beta.4 (2025-09-02). This fixed the zoom but the camera app (the native app that came with e/OS) often freezes when zooming.
What this didn’t fix is the QR-code reading which still does not work.
I downloaded the f-droid barcode scanner suggested by @Keneda That app works fine. However, I think modern camera apps should support QR-code scanning.
I don’t think you get what kind of goods you bought.
The “price segment” of the phone is for allowing a small company like FairPhone to stay alive when offering repairable and long term support products.
Plus, you bought the /e/os variant which is not Fairphone dependent for its software.
If you expect to have a perfect phone in this “price segment”, check for a pixel… but prepare yourself to be disappointed as even google makes mistakes and release problematic software.
QR-code scanning is working for me in the latest beta, although it being slow and having to tap the code onscreen for it sometimes to focus properly. With gcam it doesn’t work at all for some reason, doesn’t matter which port. I am not sure why that is.
A simple yet powerful alternative is BinaryEye, it:
is simple
is free
is open source
has no ads/tracker
is fast af
scans code’s from all angles instantly
optionally let’s you auto-open associated apps on scan
So it seems the built-in app lower-cases all URLs, but URLs are not case insensitive a lot/most of the time, so it breaks them. No idea where to report this, but it would be an easy fix.
