I’ve been using the FP6 for a month now and I keep getting NFC read failures when using NFC payment or travelling on public transport using NFC. I have to try it for over a minute with dozens of failures before i can complete any transaction. Besides having reading issues I noticed NFC turns itself off regularly.
Could this be a defect in your device? I tried NFC now by scanning my electronic ID, and the app detected it immediately, much faster than the iPhone 12 actually.
I don’t normally use NFC on my phone for paying, but I can try it out today at the grocery store and report back to you. This will be the first time doing this. Wish me luck! ![]()
In the mean time, have you tried writing FP support?
Hi, here’s an update:
I went to three businesses today and paid with Google Wallet: a drug store, a bakery and a grocery store.
It went smoothly. in all three instances. I barely touched the card reader with my phone and it had already paid. It was almost instantaneously. So I couldn’t reproduce the problem you described.
This is by no means a scientific test or a comprehensive test, but I really recommend contacting Fairphone support because it sounds like you have a defective device
Mine works fine for payments, never noticed it turning off automatically, but as I have Google pay enabled Y do turn it off manually. Happened to be close to a machine in the bus with the phone unlocked, bus moved a bit to fast and ended up paying a ticket with Google pay.
However, I would contact the place you bought it from and comment this. Probably they would replace Si make a good backup.
I did another test this morning at the grocery store. I turned off the NFC before I went into the grocery store. It was off for about 15 minutes while I was doing my shopping.
I turned the NFC on again right before I paid, so after the cashier finished scanning my cart items, and Google Wallet still worked smoothly.
So basically, I switched NFC on and 1 second later, I placed my phone on the card reader, and it immediately scanned it and the payment went through.
Thanks everyome, looks like I will be contacting support.
I also encountered problems with NFC for the second time in a week now. For the first 2 weeks after getting the phone this didn’t happen once and this never happened with my previous Moto G72 in almost 3 years with thousands of payments. Sometimes the device would detect NFC and the payment terminal had to be reset (entering amount again) but it was never the phone that was the issue.
The first time paying with NFC didn’t work I had to restart the phone and then it worked right away.
The second time I tried restarting but it still wouldn’t work (even though the payment terminal was reset in the meantime and another customer payed with their watch). I tried again and again, eventually the phone would at least detect NFC and show the message to try again. The payment terminal was then reset and after another 10-20 seconds of trying (which feels like eternity at a checkout terminal) we got it to work. I had Google wallet open the entire time after rebooting.
This is a major problem and I’m unfortunately out of the 2 week return window. NFC not working would be an immediate reason for me to return the phone since I haven’t used my physical card in over a year and never carry it with me.
