water damage fairphone 3+ in Berlin. Followed instructiones, disconnected and drying for 48 hours. Any support service in Berlin to check phone before connecting it again?
There’s Angels Heaven in Berlin, berlin@fairphone.community
If you want to minimize risk on the first attempt of booting, the FP3 should regularly boot even with the top module, camera module, speaker module and bottom module removed.
Thanks a lot, unfortunately I am on a business trip and I don´t have any screwdriver or tools with me. I only took out battery and sim cards, but could not dismantle it any further. Tried booting it today, but booting process interrupts after a short time, so I think there is major damage and I will have to change parts but do not know which ones.
That was a bit misleading then.
Turning on the phone which is not dry can cause further damage. I understand that on a trip it might be difficult not to use a phone ( I killed one of my previous phones this way), but if only possible
From the forum waterwiki
"Once you are in a safe and dry place disassemble the phone as far as you can - so in the case of the FP2/FP3/FP4/FP5 that means at take out each individual module (…)
Let it dry for days
As important as it is to turn the phone off quickly it’s just as important to not “test” it until it’s super dry.
Check for damage (still before turning on)
Check each part of the phone for signs of damage. Especially check the connectors to see if there is some sediment on it. This can come from the minerals in the water. Carefully clean it off with distilled water or alcohol."
sorry for lack of precision and you are right, instructions are super clear, but only help if you read them carefully. Seems that I had to learn it the hard way. Will try to find a possibility to get the necessary tools today in order to dissemble phone completely
problem solved, phone dissembled, cleaned with alcohol, parts checked, functions again. Hope there wont be another diving experience, but next time I know exactly what to do and what not to do. Thanks for the extremely helpful water wiki!
