Since a few days, I am no longer able to use NFC.
There was a recent Android Security Update and I’m not sure if the issues started occuring after installing it so I’m wondering if anyone else started having issues.
I already checked all the steps in the troubleshooting guide here:
As of right now, I can no longer pay cashless using Google Wallet.
All checks in the wallet app show that I should be able to use NFC.
I can also no longer read NFC data, e.g. using the Ausweis-App for my german ID card.
However, when going into the Test Menu (##2886##) the NFC reader can detect something.
Rather frustrating situation as I use cashles payment daily.
So, just tested the nPA, everything is working fine, I’m not using google for payment, because just so enough people know about my payments, so I restrict that information as far as possible.
In Settings, if I click on
Connected devices >> Connection preferences >> NFC >> Contactless payments
it does not open anything but instead jumps back one step or says ‘Settings keeps stopping’.
Can anyone confirm this behavior on their device?
Will try to uninstall Google Wallet to see if it helps.
Update: removed all contactless payment methods but issues remain
After this issue I factory reset my phone and mobile payments were working again.
I waited with installing further OTA updates because I did not want to have this issue again.
A week ago I decided to install the latest update to keep my device secure and once again IT STOPPED WORKING.
The NFC settings aren’t crashing this time but I am still not able to do any mobile payments.
This is INCREDIBLY frustrating as Google Pay is my main form of payment and I cannot do a factory reset after every OTA!
Am I supposed to use an insecure device for the next 8 years or factory reset after every OTA?
How am I the only lucky person with this issue.
I suspect my NFC module is faulty. When I firmly press on the antenna square of the battery, I can get it to work again for a bit until the connection becomes loose again. I contacted fairphone support.
