That’s a really good way to describe it! Thank you.
For the record, I don’t need a calculator to make the most sustainable(ish) decisions I can either. But neither do I support misleading categorisations or inaccurate benchmarking, because that’s worse than doing nothing at all. Doing something, anything, driven by poor quality information sources, isn’t necessarily better than nothing, if that makes the individual make poorly informed and potentially detrimental (to themselves/environment) choices.
Fairphone, perhaps you need to improve the tracker or just not have it at all? The sustainability challenges are still a good point.
Is this actually confirmed? I tried to login with my support.fairphone.com account today on an FP3 and now on an FP4, and in both cases, these credentials were returned as invalid in the My Fairphone app.
Tested and confirmed.
Can even login with the same account on two devices simultaneously
(as long as I have a connection which I didn’t realize instantly )
P.S.: On the very first login, I was prompted to choose a new password, but it accepted my existing one (which already fulfilled all the safety requirements listed) when I entered it as the new one.
Fairphone are currently making changes to the shop / support / My Fairphone App accounts so I am going to strike out whatever I said earlier as I no longer have a basis.
To be honest back in the day I got so fed up with these different accounts, plus the Forum, that I ended up using the same identifier and pw for all of them. Not good and I certainly wouldn’t advise anybody else to do that.
I seem to remember being told that that was part of the move to the new setup. At the time, I complained that my old password already conformed to the rules but I had to change anyway. Maybe I was heard
You can install all OS versions mentioned at oslist .
But, as mentioned here I suppose that VoLTE and VoWiFi might no longer work then.
And after installing another OS be aware that relocking the bootloader can be dangerous.
There is nothing in the “My Fairphone” app you could possibly miss: Just another way to access this forum, a toy to guesstimate your carbon footprint, and an empty page about troubleshooting the phone, which has been “Coming Soon!” for a while.
And most annoying is you need to log into your account each and every time you use it (fingerprint reader? What’s that?), so either you use a ridiculously insecure password like “password123”, or you have to go looking each time what your account credentials are…
IMHO definitely not worth the hassle (YMMV and all that).
I installed the latest update. Kudos for the awesome redesign and new features. Troubleshooting is much better with this new app and getting to know your devices and spare parts
However, the app is very slow with noticeable hiccups. I already cleared all the data and cache. Does anyone else experience the same?
Hadn’t noticed there’s a new version out. Installed it just now.
The app now starts extremely fast and I’m not greeted with a login screen
Need to play around a bit more before I can answer your question.
Indeed, it has been much improved.
Now it is actually useful, and what I like the most is that now it stays logged in! I don’t know what the point of logging in my store account might be (except from retrieving my first name), but I definitely don’t want to enter an email address and a long, totally random password (I don’t remember) each time I start the app, even if it’s once in a blue moon…
Try and open the stories tap and check the module stories in the phone tap. Often you conclude things a bit too fast. But if you move around in the app you’ll notice hiccups. It’s not smooth.
Well, “Fairphone stories” is completely empty for me, so – very snappy!..
(I guess it has something to do with my setting of disabling “General Fairphone news” and “Promotions and Sales offers”, in the settings.
If not, I don’t know. I left it for a while in case something will eventually appear, it didn’t. I’m quite happy that way, I’m not interested in marketing blurbs.
That been said, I moved around the app, there are just 4 tabs after all:
“Home”, three buttons, and an empty “Highlights” pane. All snappy.
“Fairphone stories”, completely empty as I said. Very snappy…
“Phone”, everything works and everything is populated. Displays quickly, including the contents of the “Phone Health” button. Didn’t try the “Quick Start Guide” or the videos, not interested.
“Support”, everything works and displays instantly.
So yes, I did move around. I didn’t follow all links though, especially those which lead outside the app.
You need to sign in to get the stories. But even without signing in, switching the tabs you can see the animations are sluggish. The transitions between the tabs has hiccups. But yeah, if you don’t notice it then it’s not an issue for you of course. But I guess most people will notice it.
