My fairphone 6 died suddenly

It’s funny mine is green too

Same issue, unfortunately. I got in touch with support today, a case is now open in the support portal, let’s see how this develops.

I’m just a bit sad that my brand new device broke so quickly :frowning:

Very strange. I had the exact same issue with my first FP6.

Plugged it in before breakfast, dead after breakfast. Battery was okay, I measured >4V.

Luckily I could just send it in and get a new one within the 14 day return policy of the vendor but much of my data was gone :frowning:

I hope my new phone lives at least as long as my FP4!

gjwolfswinkel and simonk: also green?

Well, no I feel it is a thing  so poll here:
Which color was your dead FP6?

  • Black
  • Green
  • White
  • Did not die (yet, and I hope it won’t)

I have ordered one green FO6 and now I am really scared… :fearful:

Hey all, as a follow up:

I filed a ticket with Fairphone support describing this issue, including a link to my earlier post with the photos. The phone was received by them on 10/09 and today on 16/09 I received an email that a replaced unit is being sent back.

Very happy with the quick turnaround! Hopefully the situation resolves quickly for all of you as well.

Thanks for the update!
For me I went to the seller on the 3rd, they checked it up themselves and then sent to Fairphone on the 9th, and no updates so far. I hope they ship something soon.
But so far, if fully dead I’d recommend skipping the reseller (if possible) as it adds delay

well i am going on almost 7 weeks no update.

7 weeks sounds far from acceptable. Did you send it to them or went to the store? Just to see what to expect….

The history is in the topic

@anon76468197 what is going on with this case?

if you want to know this was the last message from Monday,

Dear …..,

Thank you for your patience!

Following up on your request, our Tech team would like more information about the issue:

  • Was the phone charging when this problem occurred? Was it during the first charging session, or after multiple charging sessions?

  • Did you disassemble the battery connector before the issue happened?

  • Which cities or countries do you reside in? Is there any concentration?

  • If you haven’t sent the charger and cable yet, can you tell us about the model type?

If you have any questions, let us know and I’ll be happy to help you further.

Take care and have a nice day!

Kind regards,
Customer Support

my reply

yes the phone was charging when it occurred.
no i did not remove anything other than the back plate to replace it with the new back with the clip thing. i undid the connector to see if the issue was related to the battery. and did not go deeper into the phone because i should still have warranty. i live in the Netherlands in a small town but i don’t know why that would have influence in the phone dying. as for the charger i don’t know what model it is but it it was a official charger i bought when i got my fairphone 5 see order FP9911……. i cant give you more info because i already sent it back.

@PreciousRoy you have an incredible persistence and high motivation to stay with (the) Fairphone, impressive! I hope you will get the phone back before even your patience comes to an end. Good luck!

Did they really understand that the phone is already in the repair center?

Updates on mine:
I contacted Fairphone via the chat, it was super fast and the agent really helpful (not sure if allowed to put his name here, so won’t).
I gave him the IMEIs from the phone (that you can see in your fairphone website account), he told me it was received on the 16th, the repair started today (18th) at 11am, and they expect to send it back to my seller tomorrow.
@PreciousRoy check if you can contact the chat and ask for more details.
My message was

Hello XXXX, My phone died some weeks ago, I went to the seller and they said they sent it to you 10 days ago, since then there were no news or way to follow the status. Can you tell me it’s status of repair or replace? Imeis are:

Edit on Sept 22nd:
I chat with the support today and they told me it was repaired, and shipped! They even gave me the tracking number, so I can see it should be delivered to the store tomorrow.
Also, I asked if it was changed or repaired as I had screen protector installed and the store would not replace it, they told me to check when it is back and if not there contact them again.
Also, new person in the chat, and again, extremely helpful, so I cannot recommend more using it.

i also contacted them via chat. i just got this email

apparently they were not even processing it this whole time. at least there is movement now, lets hope it wont take to long.

Just to understand, did you communicate with Cordon or FP Support?

no this came from nowhere, i have only bean communicating with Blake from fairphone.

Something similar here, after speaking with Fairphone in the chat, the store sent me an SMS (yes, SMS, not email, considering my phone died…) saying it is under inspection at the external service center.
Not sure if querying on the chat forces an update in the support system /B2B and ends up notifying us.

Today, 20 days after leaving it, I got “my” phone back. It is clearly a new one. While setting it up screen got hot, so a bit scared already of going through the same soon.
There was a new screen protector box also with the phone, but was not privacy as I had, told the store and will get me one for tomorrow. Don’t know who takes care of that, but at least I got something. I hope I get it fully up and running by tomorrow.
