so last night while my phone was in the charger it decided to die. it got so hot i almost burned my hand. it was still responsive but it freaked me out so i turned it off but it did not cool off until the battery died (i think). now when its cooled down and i want to charge it, it heats up really fast again.
i am writing hear to show others and also i would appreciate if fairphone would actually reply to an email when i am trying to contact them. don’t reply with computer generated email and leave me hanging for a week.
indeed the online chat that is only available for 2 hours while i am working did end up getting the ball rolling. still annoyed that emails is not replied to. now i need to send it back and see what happens now.
well i could send it to a repair center, so we will see how it goes. what is anoying thoug eventhough its a dutch company i cant send the package with Postnl but can only send with ups, and i need to drive like 20 min to the nearest ups location when postnl and dhl ore almost next to me.
Support and repair took a little while but I did get a replacement device after sending the phone back and the repair centre checking the device over etc.
All in all, it took about three weeks from phone breaking to replacement arriving.
MrSteDee : first of all the fp6 is like 2 month old(just new on the market) second i only owned it for a month so i still have warranty, and thirdly if you look at the video and image i unplugged the battery and it still heats up when you plug it in. so its not a battery issue.
Furdiburd: i did not know that but i bet if the battery is not plugged in it should not become a hand warmer. but i will remember this.
fsin: yes that sounds exactly what i experienced, and the communication with the company other than the 2 hours when chat is open, is horrible ie they still have not replied to my emails. they might as well just remove the contact form and just tell you chat only.
is your new replacement working ok? i personally hope this is not a manufacturing defect otherwise it will happen a lot more. and to be honest a fire risk, because it gets really hot.
well i just got an email requesting me if i would agree to sen them the USB charger it was plugged into when it broke, i agreed so they are sending me a replacement. but no update on my phone.
new update: The repair company has had my phone for almost a month that is longer than i have had the phone. i received it on 27/06/2025 and i died on 04/08/2025 and now its 05/09/2025. To be honest I am getting quite annoyed by the lack of communication, i have not even revived a communication that they have revived it. let alone a message when the repair will be done. and to be honest i don’t understand why its taking so long. its a phone that should be easy to repair right that’s the whole point of this phone.
If anyone from fairphone reads this you need to get your act together, i want to like your products but your making it hard to do that.
you also have a broken phone ? you can buy all parts except the main board on there website. i had an issue with charging and thats part of the mainboard. but yes its dumb how long it takes.
Yes pretty much the same patern execept mine does not act as a hand warmer, no reaction at all after a simple usual plug to my fairphone charger that works well with any other device
That’s not because it’s easy to change modules that it makes it easy to find the origin of the failure of the main board or any part of any module…
It’s micro electronic, it’s processors and chips. Nothing easy.
They asked you to send charger, it means they want to find the origin of the failure, not just change a module.
What prevents you to ask them how it’s going out there ?
i have asked 3 times, they just dont say anything back. thats the biggest complaint.
how is it my problem, its a new phone they can chose to replace the unit if they want to keep it to figure out why it breaking. also i watch enough of luis rosman repair vids to know it does not take days to figure out what is broken and to replace it. like i said if they want to study it fine but give me a replacement or at least tell me the status.
well good luck with that, you could check if the usb port looks ok. that would be an easy fix usb c port
