My FP4 (fairphone 4, Android 15) stoped providing me with mobile data about a year ago. Since I was too buisy at the time and couldn’t do without the phone for the time it would have needed to sent it in, I just bought a FP5. Now my FP5 has also problems (with camera… see different toppic), I need to fix the FP4 to be able to send in the FP5…
Description: Tried the FP4-phone with different SIM-Cards in Germany (AldiTalk, Blau), that were working without problem in the FP5. Tried to put manually in the APN with no positive effect.
Then I sent in the phone some weeks ago to Fairphone with the error description „mobile data not available" and was sent back to me without any work done, stating „nothing was found wrong!?“
After receiving it back the error persisted and I noticed, it is not only the mobile data, that is missing, but the connection to the mobile network at all!
I tried to select network manually, but no network is found! (While at the same time the other phones showed long lists of available networks!)
I just filed another request to fairphone for the FF4 being repaird and will send it in tomorrow, but since I didn’t find a similar description here in the forum, I thougt it wise to open the error-description.
Happy for your ideas, but I will also post the outcome here…
@Lidwien Thanx for the idea. I am not sure, if they are less then 2 years. But why would they be working in two other phones then without a problem? Is that possible?
I just ordered a new simcard from Aldi Talk in Germany for a different phone number though. I might try that one out before sending in the phone, if you say it might be a possible source of error.
The SIM-Passcode is asked and accepted before I can start the phone like always.
When I try to dial a phone-no., I get the message “Deaktiviere zum Telefonieren den Flugmodus.” (For Using the telephone, deactivate the flightmode.), although the flightmodus is turned off.
Check if the icon of the SIM at hat moment is visible on the right top of your screen.
What happens if you at that moment turn the flightmodus on and off?
I had sent the phone in again. The repair statement of the repair-group, that fairphone is using, Cordon Electronics, the same like the first time, just states: Failure: On/off – Other PB // Repair: Product Exchange (Part Not Available) // Replaced Part: Product (Mobile Phone).
(Whatever that means!?)
They just sent a totally new FP4. Since it was new, it even included a new battery, although I didn’t add that in the parcel I had sent in for repair.
So to sum up:
- I still don’t know, what the problem was.
Positive outcome
For me: A new phone and even a second battery as a bonus. Thank you FP! I appreciate that.
The customer support works and seems to be really pro-consumer! (although only at the second time of sending it in!!!)
Negative outcome:
a) I had the FP4 for less then 3 years, so can I expect, that the new one won’t have a longer life-expectancy? By the way: I had to buy a replacement-USB-socket already 3 times (one per year!)
b) I really switched to FP because I support the idea of repair instead of replace… In this case it didn’t seem to work.
