Minor issues after installing CalyxOS

Hi everyone,

I’ve bought a new Fairphone 5 and installed CalyxOS because a friend recommended it and because it aligns more with my values (both device and OS). Installation went great and I’ve been able to install everything I want so I will soon switch from my iPhone. However there are some minor issues which I hope someone will be able to help me with.

  • Tap to wake does not work (settings → display → tap to wake). I’ve enabled this option but it does not work. It does work on the FP5 (with CalyxOS) of my friend. I’ve read it could be because of an app misbehaving (but how do I find the specific app).

  • Charging is very slow (even if it says rapidly charging) when the device is turned on. However when I switch the device off it will actually charge fast on the same 60W charger. It seems like power negotiation does not work properly when the device is turned on.

  • Adaptive brightness is very clunky. You can actually see the brightness go up or down in steps, instead of a smooth transition and it misbehaves constantly, cranking up the brightness at weird times in a dim environment.

All minor issues, but if they can be fixed all improve the experience. Hope anyone can give me some pointers. Will also address this on the proper channels at CalyxOS.

Hi,
I am also rocking CalyxOS on FP5. I do not use tap to wake, because it was sometimes activating in my pocket, but I tried to activate it now and I can confirm it does work for me. Did you try restart? Do you have latest updates? (I am pretty sure its a yes, yes, but you never know.)
Adaptive brightness is not ideal, but as you said its not big issue. With time I learned to adjust it myself in the few occasions when it doesn’t perform to my satisfaction. That said it was behaving the same on FP OS - so that issue is on fairphone side (firmware or so?).
I can’t comment on the charging I prefer slow charging and do not have fast charger to try.

You probably know that (judging by your last sentence) but for others, you can look for reported issues here: Issues · CalyxOS / calyxos · GitLab
and you can create a new one if it doesn’t exist yet. I have done this in the past and communication from Calyx was good.

Edit: I removed the part about charging to 80 % I checked and it already has it, yay.

Hi Fairtony,

Thanks for your fast reply. I found relevant tickets for most issues.
