Hi. I’ve noticed over the few years I’ve had my FP5 that the minimum volume on a lot of different settings is way too loud. I searched around the forums a bit and can see it’s an issue that others have faced before.
For example, I like to take phone calls on speakerphone. However, if I’m in an environment that’s even slightly quiet, the minimum speaker volume becomes too loud.
The exact same goes for holding the phone up to your head during regular handset style phone calls. Sometimes I have to hold it a distance away from my head in quiet surrounds. It’s even worse if the person on the other end of the call is in a noisy place.
That said however, it’s odd that this terrible minimum behaviour isn’t reflected across all volumes in the phone. The media volume (e.g. when playing a song) has a perfectly normal and reasonable minimum. It also has way finer adjustment, with a lot more notches than call or notification volume.
I tried the “absolute volume” developer setting, but that’s only for Bluetooth. Even if it did work, users shouldn’t need to dig into those settings just to have normal phone functionality anyway.
So I ask this. Fairphone, please lower the minimum volume of call earpiece, speakerphone, ring, notification and alarm volume. Please then make them more granular to account for the gap between volume steps increasing after widening the volume range
I don’t know anything about Android development, but I can’t imagine this would be a difficult change to make. It might even be really helpful to people out there who use a Fairphone and have sensory issues like hypersensitivity.
