Since 3 days, microphone 1 & 2 (top and bottom) doesn’t work anymore on my Fairphone 5. The microphone 3 at the left side works well when I put on the loudspeaker.
Here is a list of what I tested :
Restart in safe mode
Verifying android update (nothing since the beggining of january)
Updating all of the apps (everyday we have one so…)
Trying audio test in manual mode => 1 & 2 OUT, 3 works well.
Using the dictaphone => micro 1 works when I change codec to HE_AAC_V2
Uninstall useless apps
Disassemble parts and re-assemble => Works for 20 min.
I tried something in the settings (wifi call, bluetooth and others things around audio).
The fact that the dictaphone works with another codec tell me that it’s more probably a software problem, but I’m not sure.
I just contact the support to launch the guarantee procedure, but I’m freelance and I need a phone to work, so here a message
Just to be clear, it is the same in safe mode? And if yes did you try without SIM as well? And it happens with all Apps using those 2 mics or are we mainly talking about phone calls?
In safe mode or normal mode, micro 1 & 2 don’t work, and it’s global. On telegram, whatsapp, phone calls, messenger, etc…
The only exception is with the dictaphone. With custom settings (codec HE_AAC_V2), it works, and when is default settings, it’s not.
Are you sure that when you change the codec that still mic 1/2 is used? I would rather think its a hardware issue and the mics are on the main board. As support is really really slow at the moment, I would strongly suggest to contact them via online Chat, opening hours change, currently it should be this
When I change the codec on the dictaphone, the mic at the top works but only on this app.
I solved the problem for 2 hours this morning (all microphones has worked). The procedure was to go to the shortcut interface “micro on/off” et restart. It’s very strange honestly ahah
For the chat, I program it, thank you
In my eyes its either hardware or an App. To exclude a third Party App, see if you can “fix” it again and run the phone in safe mode for a longer time.
On the FP4 there were instances were the Google App caused issues with the mic, and removing mic access for the Google App helped.
I did multiple tests yesterday and this morning. Everything go to a software problem apparently.
I restart in safe mode the FP5 and did my trick with the dictaphone (codec) => Micro works.
I decided after that to restart in normal mode and just use Telegram, Whatsapp, Browser et Phone calls. This morning, everything is fine… And the quality is good.
I think, an app, perhaps an update of an app, create a conflict with the micro. And it’s not Google app (I tried your solution but no effect sorry).
I need to diag which app cause this. But how determine this… That’s a question ahah
I think I need to do some unit tests. An Excel with all of the app, and start the micro/start another app and see which cause this problem…
