May & June Forum Update 🌷

Dear Community,

May and June haven been whirlwind months behind the scenes here at Fairphone. We’ve been focusing heavily on improving your customer experience, diving into the hard facts of our environmental footprint, and locking in a new mainstream partnership.

Here is everything you need to know from the past weeks:

1) No More Waiting: Our New Automated Returns Portal :counterclockwise_arrows_button::tada:

We’ve been listening to your wishes for faster, more efficient support. That’s why we are very excited to share that we recently launched a brand new, fully automated portal to give you total control over product returns during the “cool-off” reflection period: https://www.fairphone.com/returns.

You no longer need to wait for a customer support agent to open a ticket for straightforward refunds.

  • How it works: Simply log into the portal, select the products you want to return for a refund, and generate your own Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) instantly. You’ll receive clear, automated return instructions via email within minutes.

By automating cool-off returns, we free up some our official customer support team, allowing our agents to focus on complex technical issues and deep troubleshooting tickets.

:light_bulb: Have feedback? If you have any thoughts, suggestions, or encounter bugs while using the new portal, please share them here: https://forum.fairphone.com/t/big-milestone-repair-portal-is-live/125199.

I check this page regularly and forward the most important points to our development team.

2) We’ve Started Selling Refurbished Fairphones (Gen. 6)! :mobile_phone::recycling_symbol:

Speaking of our returns process, have you ever wondered what happens to devices returned during that 14-day cool-off period? Legally, an opened box cannot be resold as “new”, that’s why we’ve started selling Refurbished Fairphones (Gen. 6)! Choosing refurbished isn’t a compromise, it’s a massive win for a circular economy and your wallet.

The Fairphone Refurbished Difference:

  • No Compromise on Protection: Unlike the risky, short warranties common in the rest of the tech industry, our refurbished Gen. 6 comes with the exact same 5-year warranty (fully transferable!) and the same software support longevity until 2033 as a brand-new device.

  • True Waste Prevention: We don’t swap parts just for aesthetics. Batteries are tested and guaranteed to hold over 80% capacity, screens are only replaced if they have more than two scratches, and units ship in plastic-free, recyclable packaging.

  • Note: Our stock of refurbished phones depends on the supply of used products. See what’s available here: https://www.fairphone.com/the-fairphone-gen-6. If devices are out of stock, don’t worry. Refurbishing is a continuous process for us. You can set a reminder to make sure you’re updated when new units are available.

3) Our 2025 Impact Report is Live! :bar_chart::herb:

On Earth Day (April 22), we published our comprehensive annual Impact Report. For our data-loving community members, here are some of the biggest achievements you helped make happen last year:

  • 7-Year Marathon Runners: Fairphone devices continue to last nearly twice the industry average. In fact, 40% of all Fairphone 3 devices are still actively spinning - seven years after launch!

  • Our Lightest Footprint Yet: The Fairphone (Gen. 6) achieved a product carbon footprint of just 29 kg COâ‚‚e - a massive 30% reduction compared to the Fairphone 5.

  • E-Waste Neutrality: We collected 30 metric tons of electronic waste, maintaining a 97% e-waste neutrality rate across the board.

  • Fairer Supply Chains: We distributed $215,000 in living wage bonuses to 1,650 factory workers last year, crossing the $1.25 million mark in total bonuses to date.

4) Last Call: Fairphone 3 “Continue Your Journey” Offer Ends June 30! :hourglass_not_done:

Speaking of our amazing Fairphone 3 users, this is a quick final reminder that our special “Continue Your Journey” loyalty offer is ending on June 30. If you are an active FP3 owner looking to transition to a newer model, make sure to check your inbox for your unique voucher before it’s too late! :love_letter:

If you think you are eligible for this offer but didn’t receive an email, you can reach out to our Customer Support Team here: https://support.fairphone.com/hc/en-us/requests/new.

5) Feyenoord x MediaMarkt Partnership :soccer_ball:

We have some big news regarding how we’re scaling our mission! Fairphone is officially joining the partnership between Feyenoord and MediaMarkt as a Premium Affiliate Partner. Starting from the upcoming 2026/2027 season, the Fairphone brand will be featured on the match-kit shorts of both the Feyenoord Men’s and Women’s first teams! :shorts:

Why partnerships like this matter: To truly change the electronics industry, sustainable choices can’t stay a niche secret - they need to go mainstream! Partnering with a massive club like Feyenoord under the umbrella of Europe’s leading electronics retailer, MediaMarkt, gives us an incredible platform to prove that commercial success, mainstream sports, and ethical sustainability can go hand-in-hand.

6) What’s REALLY Inside Your Phone? (New Video) :movie_camera:

The next episode in our Journey of the Fairphone (Gen. 6) series is out on YouTube! Did you know that a single smartphone supply chain can involve up to 15,000 different suppliers and over 60 types of natural resources?!

In this episode, our team breaks down the immense complexity of navigating these stages ethically. We discuss everything from utilizing mineral credit systems to support small-scale miners in the DRC :congo_kinshasa:, to the deep engineering hurdles of maintaining software longevity and extended Android support.

7) June Community Meetups :tear_off_calendar:

Summer is nearly here and local communities are organizing gatherings across Europe. If you’ve been wanting to meet fellow Fairphone enthusiasts, swap repair tips, or see the Gen 6 in person, we have two community events scheduled for June already up on the forum! Big shout-out to @urs_lesse for managing the Community Meetups organization with such care. :raising_hands:

:backhand_index_pointing_right: Find an event near you, or register your own meetup here!

:green_heart: Need help with an issue? While this forum is a wonderful space for our community to connect and share tips, it is a peer-to-peer platform and isn’t monitored by our official support team. For direct troubleshooting and technical support, please head over to our official Repair Portal. :hammer_and_wrench:

What are your thoughts on the new football partnership, buying refurbished, our Impact Report, and our latest YouTube video? Let us know in the comments below! :speech_balloon:

@Fairphone_CM what about having RSS back into the main website? RSS feed gone from website?

Hi @bj-091, thanks for sharing! I’ve flagged this and looking into if this is something that we can implement again.

The refurbished FP6 has apparently disappeared from the shop for now, and the deep link https://www.fairphone.com/shop/buy-the-fairphone-gen-6-2009?color=274&select=275&refurbished=0 suggests so as well for all three colours. Let’s see when there will be stock again.

Hi @urs_lesse , you can just enter your email address & click “Notify Me” at the bottom of the page to get notified once Refurbished Fairphone Gen. 6 are available again

@bj-091 it should be working again

@Fairphone_CM I don’t suppose the new returns portal can be used to obtain a return label for an item that I didn’t order? Been 7 weeks since I opened a support ticket for receiving somebody else’s order, and still no resolution.

Perhaps you can discuss this in the Support Chat (bottom half of the page)?

:light_bulb: Interesting for others reading along: The Support Chat with a real person is now/currently available Mo-Fr in the afternoon (14:00-16:00 Amsterdam time), too :+1:

EDIT: For at least one month already

Tried that twice, didn’t lead to anything but more apologies and “we’ll get back soon”. It’s a bit embarrassing really. It’s not my problem nor do I have anything to gain from fixing it, just trying to be a good citizen. But you’re probably right this is not the correct place either.

Sorry to hear this and thanks for being so honest and reporting it @RSpliet ! I’ll reach out to you via DM :envelope_with_arrow:

just to say - this was a good service regards an out-of-stock replacement screen module for my FP3 this year’s January: One time I was notified about “in stock again”, checked the fact in the shop after this email, organized a friend for retrieving this part and then fast ordered it.
