Mail account and other app updating

Hi, I have only just got the fairphone 6 e/os Murena.

I have not had my own smartphone before (only a work one I had not administrator access for). So this is very exciting! However……

I confess I did what you are not meant to do and just started using it without reading much! I uploaded surfshark security, I attached my email (yahoo account), Whatsapp. I tried to connect my work account but they won’t permit it (says the App Lounge does not comply with their cyber security requirements) but I accessed the work email and Teams account via the web anyway. That was all fine yesterday all day.

Today, I went into the work account on the phone and it said I needed to change password as someone was trying to hack in….I suspect me as I have the IP address hidden and showing as randomly all over the world. But that was fine to start with and I logged in on the computer and phone to work. Then after a bit I was asked to sign in again to another work app because I had changed my password, I did, but then it would not recognise anything. Then suddenly everything needed a new password, but they did not recognise my old one to change it. Now I am locked out of everything.

Additionally, my personal yahoo email was not updating. I had to reauthenticate today. I did using the PC. But is this also because of the hidden IP? I don’t want to have to re-authenticate and have this problem all the time!

I feel I have just not done something really basic…. If anyone can advise, that would be great!

Their systems, their rules.

Continue to use a work phone from your employer for work stuff. It’s the much better idea than to

  • use a private phone at all for this.
(I know everybody tends to do this, but this doesn’t make it a good idea.)

  • use /e/OS for this, as this is begging for trouble when it comes to compliance at the work place.
This is a “degoogled” Android flavour in the so-called “custom ROM” realm. There’s no obligation or business chain of responsibility whatsoever anywhere there to get your work stuff fixed in case it gets refused by IT or if it simply doesn’t work, which given the technical nature of /e/OS can happen at any point in time for any amount of time because of “degoogling” causing compatibility issues with Apps.

Sounds possible, but I have no experience with such a setup.
