Loss SIM connection - stops working

Hi, I’ve my Fairphone for a year now. Since a few months I have the following problem.

My phone loses connection with my SIM-card, telling me there is no sim in the device. Once I notice this, for example because I cannot call or my mobile data is gone, I switch the phone off and on, and then the problem is resolved until it occurs again.

This disconnection from my sim happens very sporadically, sometimes 5 times a day, sometimes not for weeks. However, the last two weeks it has occurred every day at least 2 times.

This is a very anoying problem, since I’m unreachable until I notice it.
Maybe it is my simcard? However it is weird that the on and off switching resolves the problem.
Anyone any advice?

Hello katb and welcome to the forum.

I remember having a similar problem with a Samsung device several years ago. I think I changed my SIM card with an eSIM and this resolved the problem.

Maybe you can consult a support rep of your SIM provider?

How old is the SIM?

As I understand, there have been some changes recently in Android’s management of SIMs which may lead to problems especially with older cards.

See for example:

Solved with a new SIM issued at no cost (after demonstrating in the shop that a new SIM worked correctly).

Thank you both for your input.
I did see the topic on the Sunrise network, there are similarities. However I thought that in my case it would be something with the phone, not the sim.
Nonetheless I will see what changing my simcard will do. Thank you!

Did you try to clean the SIM contacts and did you check the SIM is properly inserted? While for sure SIM cards can always break, the other topic is reg the FP6 in combination with a specific country and network

Thank you all for your advice. Changing the sim card so far has solved the issue. No problems for 2 days at least.
