Hey anybody else have 2 extra buttons overlapping the keyboard. It makes using it almost impossible. The number and enter. This is after the update.
hello
mentioned on reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/fairphone/comments/1rvzxr1/issue_with_android_16_update_the_keyboard_is/
should be fixed with reboot, if not, try to “force stop the gboard app and clear the cache”
kudos @kwasow
That helped thanks. But this has not bean the cleanest update for me. Cuts it locked up on the Fairphone logo on reboot after the update. After half an hour I did a hard reset. I was happy it continues to work after the reset. Then I had the keyboard issue. I hope other people had a better experience
I installed the thing and now my keyboard is screwed up. The down arrow for hiding the keyboard and the globe for changing keyboard layout is placed on top of the ?123 and “return” button, making it hard to type reliably.
Just a thought. What happens if you clear the cache of the keyboard?
See the thread here: Keyboard extra buttons
Thanks! That reboot fixed it for me ![]()
The first time I accessed the keyboard after the Android 16 update, it appeared to be floating, and I was able to reposition it. Here’s how to do that later as well:
Aside from the issues already mentioned, my keyboard sits too low on the screen. It is tucked behind the navigation bar. ( this happens on all types of navigation bar). I am just using the default Google Keyboard.
I can confirm that one additional restart fixes the keyboard. Now my only “issue” is the comically large 4G+ icon and occasional freezes of parts of the keyboard or scrolling but I had that on Android 15 as well…
Is there any chance there will be an update soon that fixes these issues? The navigation button thing is a huge problem for me. Since i am using smartphones (15 years) I am used to have my back button bottom right. I bought my FP6 in October and paid 600€ because I wanted to make an idealistic and sustainable decision and now I feel like I ended up in something quite experimental. Thank you for your understanding!
When the keyboard appears, it is partially hidden behind the navigation bar (home/back buttons). Because of this, I can’t access the space bar or the bottom row of the keyboard properly.
This makes typing very difficult or sometimes impossible.
Has anyone else experienced this issue?
Is there a known fix or workaround?
Thanks in advance for your help.
A couple of posts further up this was suggested and confirmed by other users.
Hi,
I also be not lucky about that. But ask Google. It’s a “feature” in Android 16. But if you search for it on internet, it seems Google won’t do anything about it, as gesture control is now supposed to be prioritized in Android.
For those who still have the keyboard behind the bottom navigation bar, you can move the keyboard manually. Here is how.
- On the keyboard, press the four squares in the top left corner:
- Press the “Resize” option.
- Move the keyboard to where you want it, and press done.
This worked for me. Hope this helps.
I am a newbie here in the forum and as a fairphone user. After update to Android sixteen I cannot longer use certain buttons in the keyboard in my google sms app and also other apps and in the browser like right now. It is the key with question mark one two three and the commakey. The keyboard just closes when touching these buttons. I cannot type any numbers or comma or other signs. Has anyone experienced that questionmark.
Otherwise my new fairphone works fine, and I am very happy with it, but I also have the issue with the low sound in soundrecording in certain apps like Signal.
Thanks for advice.
Update: I solved the problem. I switched to three button navigation. The keyboard was now overlapping bottom. I resized the keyboard and moved it upwards manually and the “ ?123” key worked. I switched back to movement navigation and the buttons/keys still worked.
Hi. After latest update navigation bar is blocking keyboard in all apps. See the screenshots. Please issue a hotfix asap. Not cool.
Hi, welcome to the forum. Does restarting your phone fix the issue?
We are users like you, we can’t fix anything and for sure not ‚asap‘.
If a restart doesn’t fix it, can you try gesture navigation as a temporarily remedy?
This looked like a forum where fairphone users could post issues and fairphone reps would review (or at least notice) them. My (separate) thread has been merged to this thread. So I did not ask particularly in this thread any users to fix anything.
