When plugged in to charge, it does charge the phone, but most of the time it produces the “Liquid or debris in USB port” error. Not consistently though.
When I first tested the adapter, I swear it did output audio on the phone jack, but it has never done so since then.
The phone and adapter are both practically new, and I have cleaned out the connectors with an air duster.
I have a week left to return this for a refund, but I’m going to check with some colleagues whether it works in their phones first and is just an issue of compatibility with the FP5, so that I’m not making an assumption on it being defective.
It was pretty cheap, so if anyone knows of a more reliably compatible one, I’d like to hear it.
I never was able to get a wired usb c to headphone jack connection to work reliably, with good sound, for more than a little while; all those adapters are prone to breakage (and sound bad; crackling, muffled, low volume or all 3..)
Instead, I switched to a wireless DAC (I use and love the Snowsky Retro Nano, but there are many others) which gives much better sound quality, and frees up the usb c port.
I have a separate 90 degree USB-C to USB-C adapter which works reliably on my official /e/OS fp5 build.
My USB-C to audiojack connector worked brilliantly for the first few times, but since the cat played with the cable - teeth meet wires - one side sometimes doesn’t register audio. My headphones are ancient and weren’t used much until a few months ago so it could be the headphones.
Also, I noticed putting in loop ear filters and rested my ear hook headphones over the top and the loops blocked 100% of the sound, not just the overly loud/almost shouty person.
I may try it with a different pair of wired headphones although tbh the only reason I used the wired ones is because wireless ear hook headphones don’t seem to be made any more.
