Is there a way to rollback my FP5 to Android 14?

Hi, I was 100% happy with my FP5 … until Android 15 update !
I might be a black sheep but honestly I’m tired of bugs that should simply NOT exists on a “stable” release (was part of android beta programs and most of the betas were more stable than our stable state).

I’ve experienced:

  • QuickStep crashing randomly every 10s … had to install third-party launcher (that eventually was also buggy, just silent about it) and then perform a factory reset to fix it.
  • Wallpaper randomly reseting to default (even setting different back/lock pics did NOT fix it)
  • “SIM 1 is VOLTE capable” notification … no news on that front
  • Data over 3G/4G/5G randomly not working (any other phone with the same carrier in the room is fine)

… It really feels that A15 on FP5 was release ASAP without beeing tested and thats REALLY sad !
I don’t mind not beeing on the latest Android version as long as my system is secure AND stable … here i feel like I bought a random cheap phone on Temu :frowning:

Look at this resource, providing happy using fastboot: : https://support.fairphone.com/hc/en-us/articles/18896094650513-How-to-manually-install-Android-on-your-Fairphone#01HB8ZZ1BMMQNSNMFT3YXDBXA0

Thanks !

OTA Sideload
Does not work for downgrading, and can only be used to go from older to newer software versions.

That’s what I was fearing … another factory reset :frowning:

Plus I imagine A14 won’t receive security updates (if anyone knows) ?

Correct. Fairphone does not keep several versions supported

The crashing is it for me.

And every app closes seconds after switching to another.

And loading nova launcher takes from zero up to 12 seconds, same with Microsoft launcher.

And same for the app search function in nova and Microsoft launcher.

.

Factory reset should help? Surely?

I am not too keen on this, because I suppose that I will have to reinstall all apps W-LAN keys and so on and so forth… Is there a comprehensible guide of how to step by step save all data?

Releasing a fix would be waaay nicer.

.

Can a user help out with a dump of any sort to help locate the error source?

.

And Is there an official acknowledge of the problem and aaaany kind of statement, that someone is working on it?

.

I really like the “cheap temu phone” reference, because that is exactly what this phone feels right now… That is an utter disaster!

Hi, best you can do is backup your “global settings” in settings > system > backup.

This will save into your google drive your whole configuration (google services settings, android settings, wifi/network configurations and maybe a partial list of your apps). BUT you will always have to re-login into each app after a recovery and you’ll loose all data (photos/videos/files) that are not on the cloud.

There is probably a way to “clone” your phone … but that’s actually what you do not wanna do since the point of reseting is to get a fresh more stable system … so not a clone
