So my FP2 met some hard tarmac at speed 7 years ago, and the microphone hasn’t worked since. I haven’t been able to get a replacement from Fairphone, so it’s supplying data and music to my sound system - it’s no longer a phone, just a small computer.
My FP3 on the other hand, is in daily use as a phone. Just bought a new bottom module for it cos no-one can hear me today. For how long am I going to be able to get spare parts for my FP3? Are Fairphone going to support it for 8 or 10 years as they’ve discussed?
Hi,
I am not sure this is the question for other users.
This is what I found but I am not certain this is valid still
How long will Fairphone 3(+) spare parts be available for?
We aim to provide spare parts for 5 years after we launched Fairphone 3(+). We launched Fairphone 3 in August 2019 and the Fairphone 3+ in 2020.
and
Until when will spare parts be available on your website for Fairphone 3(+)?
We will provide spare parts until at least 2024.

There has been a heated discussion when the camera for FP3 (+) got discontinued and I have had a strong impression that was an exception and that FP plans to continue providing spare parts for quite some time.
Still, next year FP3 most likely will stop being supported in terms of software, so perhaps it might be smart to ask the company on the spare parts future availability.
Thank you for this.
I was also asking a more general question - does the company have a general policy about longevity of support, or is it individual to particular models?
I’m not seeking a particular guarantee - I would ask the company about that - more seeking a discussion about what users feel the company’s approach has been/is likely to be/should be?

Each phone comes with a specific commitment - I think it depends significantly on its components and arrangements with partners.
Now there is also a new EU law that prescribes that spare parts should be available for a long time after the end of sales, which can revolutionise the market (not sure though what is meant by critical parts as most of the phones are not repairable to FP standard)
including obligations for producers to make critical spare parts available within 5-10 working days, and for 7 years after the end of sales of the product model on the EU market
