How do I get a pdf directly to the home page.

I haven’t done this myself but here is an article that lists several options. Maybe one fits your needs

  1. Install [Total Commander] from playStore
  2. Open the app and go to the folder where your PDF is saved.
  3. Touch and hold the PDF file, then select “Create link on desktop” from the context menu.

Works fine on my 4. Also TC is a nice filemanager.
