"Heat it" Insect bite healer does not work with FP5 - somebody knows how to make it work?

Dears, I am using an insect bite healer “Heat it”, a USB C device that heats up and uses the cellphone battery. It works with other devices, but not with my FP5. It is recognized (blinks red) but does not open the App and is not recognized by the App and cannot be started (heated).
Also the USB C connecton does not play Audio (for example wit headphones with USB C).

Somebody knows how to make that work?

Hi,

I have a
HeatIT device, it’s working here on my FP5 running the latest update FP5.VT2Y.C.108.20260622

It worked out of the box.

Hello
It looks there might be an issue with your USB C connection. Is data transfer working?

You can do some troubleshooting via MyFairphone app, as well.

Check if there is lint in the usb port. It may be compressed into a thin layer at the depth of its bottom and prevent some contacts from making, er…, contact.

Pressing in the plug harder may work for the moment but makes it worse and at some point will tear off the connector from its board. Be careful and gentle when poking inside the connector to get the stuff out.

I have the same issue. Charging with USB works, but file transfer and heat-it does not. I already changed the USB port, but this did not fix it. Maybe a problem with the motherboard…

Same for me, FP5 with latest Stock Android worked out of the box, no issues.

If you are not getting a menu to manually switch to File / Data transfer when something is plugged into the USB port that should support that, try the following:

Go into SETTINGS > ABOUT PHONE > scroll down until you see the build number > press the build number 7 times > You may have to enter your PIN > Congrats, you a now a developer. Go to SYSTEM (still in settings) and click on developer options > CHANGE NOTHING EXCEPT FOR THIS: >> scroll down until you find the Networking section > find Default USB configuration > change it to File Transfer > leave the menu. You can choose to turn developer option off after this.

Thank you!

I did what you wrote, enabled Data transfer, but heat it still does not work. I have no USB C headphones to try if this works now…

I also wrote to the heat it support, they answered:

The following two points might be of further help, but they are really just guesses:

1. Software for detecting USB-OTG (On-The-Go). The device draws its power via USB-OTG from your smartphone’s battery. Fairphone’s Android implementation sometimes has problems connecting automatically to USB accessories. If the device isn’t recognised, you may need to ensure your smartphone is unlocked before connecting it, or manually check in your Android settings that USB data/OTG connections aren’t restricted by security or power-saving features.

2. Aggressive battery optimisation The device requires a sudden, brief surge of power from the phone’s battery to heat the ceramic plate. If your Fairphone 5 is in strict power-saving mode, or if Android’s adaptive battery settings severely restrict power delivery in the background, this could throttle the performance of the USB-C port, causing the app to report an error or fail to heat up.

I already disabled the Akku-Manager, still doesn’t work. And I found nothing about the OTG thing…

Does anyone know, if there are different Hardware Releases on the FP5, since some People have issues with the USB for HeatIT.

My FP5 Hardware is from March 2024, running FPOS FP5.VT2Y.C.108.20260622 and its working as expected.

Best regards
