For the past few days, the GPS on my FP5 doesn’t seem to be working at all. I was only getting location by cell tower triangulation, but even that has stopped working this morning.
I’ve tried lots of things, including switching location on and off, checking battery saving settings, restarting the phones, clearing caches in map apps and downloading a couple of GPS apps (GPS Status & Toolbox and GPS Test) to try to figure things out - all to no avail.
In those apps, they can see between 8 and 25 satellites usually, but my phone never gets a fix on any of them, regardless of standing still or moving quickly (e.g on a train).
Anyone got any further suggestions? Living without GPS is something I don’t want to do!
Are you using the original Fairphone OS? Is Android up-to-date? Do these apps have permission to access location-services? If nothing helps, you could try a backup and factory reset the phone.
So a day or so after posting this, they started working again, sometimes with GPS being picked up, other times just with cell signal. So it’s a bit hit and miss. Which is almost as frustrating as it not working at all.
I might have to go nuclear and do the back up and reset, but really want to avoid that, as it takes quite a bit of time to set everything up again.
Mine seems to be mostly working fine for the past few days. The issues I had was while I was away in the south of France and Spain, but there is no reason why it would be affected just there and not now that I am back home in the UK!
