Hello;
Around a year ago I opted to make the change to eOS from the standard operating system, and since then I have had to take some irritating extra steps whenever Google decides I need an extra security challenge. Basically, it is convinced that I own and am using a Pixel 2, which I assume is the FP. Their system will insist that the most secure path is to use their proprietary authentication, and I basically have to go through about five extra steps each time in order to get them to just send me a text. This ends up being categorized as ‘account recovery’, which results in me getting notification emails about it as well.
I have gone through every one of their account settings that seems to make sense, and the only way I’ve found to work around this would be to turn off MFA altogether. I’ve also posted the question on Google’s community forum, with the result that it sat there unanswered for around three weeks before being marked as a duplicate, ‘your question has already been answered in another post.’ There was no actual comment made, and it only linked to a general FAQ on the account recovery process.
Has anyone else navigated something like this? I still have a weekly Zoom call I’m part of, and it’s awfully obnoxious to have to deal with this 20-25% of the times I try to log in. This is just me filling in the blanks with my own grouchy opinion, but it feels like Google has zero interest in making my life any easier in getting off their systems. At this point, it feels like the easiest answer might be to create a new Zoom account using my Proton email address, but I can’t bring myself to believe that there isn’t a more graceful solution.
Any suggestions?
