I factory reset my phone because I had several issues and I thought, new year, new install. This did fix several issues, except for the Google App at the home screen.
Normally, when you swipe left from the main home screen, you see a news feed from Google (yes, all those people who have alternative launchers and ROMs, you don’t have that )
I expected that a factory reset would fix this. Now, before I contact FP support, I would like to know if other people also don’t have this news feed anymore. For the record, yes, I enabled the option in the default launcher shipped with the fp5. I also enabled “Discover” in the Google app. Opening the Discover feed manually does show active feeds. So I suppose it’s Trebuchet that has an integration issue.
I don’t use FairphoneOS (iodeOS user here) but I can assure you that almost evrey bigger alternative launcher has a news-feed or something similiar. Neo Launcher for example or Lawnchair, both are free and open source by the way.
Fairphone still needs to fix it, since that’s what they ship with the phone. But before I report it, I would like to verify that this is reproducible. So if anyone else can test
I can only say that my news feed disappeared some days ago (swiping was still possible but the left home screen was empty), but I got it back after either restarting the phone or turning the setting off and on again. (Not sure what I did exactly as the problem was solved so quickly that I had almost forgotten about it.)
I recently gave me fp5 to my wife and did a factory reset.
Since the reset my wife has the same problem.
The news feed when swiping left does not show anymore.
Activating it on the home screen doesn’t work either.
Have you found a solution yet?
She changed her standard search engine to ecosia.
Did you change yours as well?
Maybe this has something to do with it. I will try to switch it back to Google to see if it changes anything.
Nope. I have the DuckDuckGo search bar since I have the FP5. Also with the January update this problem persists. Since I now have got a reaction from someone who has the same issue I feel comfortabele to report it to Fairphone support.
It’s suddenly working again. I’m not sure why. I started to use the Discover app manually, maybe it refreshed something. Or of course, a Play System update solved it. I don’t know. But so far it’s working, also after reboots.
