A recent email from Fairphone about tips for using the camera says the front selfie camera is 50MP but I can’t seem to find that in settings - only seems to go up to 12MP for this front camera.
Any ideas?

In the specs of the Fairphone 5 when you choose for ‘see more specifications’ it says:

50MP Samsung JN1 sensor

Pixel binning 12.5 MP (1.28 μm effective pixel size)

Let me help dumb it down a little.
It’s physically 50 megapixels, but it combines evey 4 pixels into an effective 12 megapixel camera, for a better image.
For the back cameras, you can enable a pure 50 megapixel mode, that takes larger resolution photos. But this feature isn’t available for the front facing camera.
You don’t need to worry what the phone’s settings menu tells you. You’re still getting the best results.
