Front Camera dust

I purchased my Fairphone 6 earlier this year. In the short time I have owned it, a lot of dust has built up in the front camera (it is visible - I have not taken it apart to see it). The result is that when I use the front camera, it produces very hazy images.

Has anyone else had this issue? I assume it’s covered by the warranty but I’m not sure.

One person mentioned that sometime Fairphone will just send me the part (covered by warranty) so that I can swap it out myself. The only reason I haven’t applied the warranty is because I don’t want to have to wait for a month or more to get it back, so this would be great if they could do it.

Could you eventually share a picture of the visible dust ingress? Maybe it’s something else or cold be cleaned easily? I don’t think this to be a warranty case and request a new camera module.

Hi, I have had a similar issue with myFP5, contacted the Support and they suggested sending in the device if I do not manage to clean it on my own (but it wasn’t specified whether it would be in-warranty repair or not). They suggested sending the pictures of my phone - I assume in order to rule out the water ingress.

But I opened the phone and cleaned it with success.

Edited to clarify that it was a back camera, and arguably one speck of dust.

you can see the dust. I keep my phone in my front pocket so I guess the lint gets inside.

With a warranty case, that will probably provide the most “sterile” solution to get it fixed - I carry the phone in my front pocket all the time and don’t have THAT amount of dirt under the display, so if you have time to spare waiting for it that could a case worth making to them that this is not normal.

However, as @Meaghan mentioned, if you feel so inclined, it looks like following this should allow you to clean the area yourself without paying anything. I am not sure judging from the pictures that taking off the connector cover is really necessary, but it would be mainly being careful with the cables (and avoiding the risk to make the actual display collect more dust during the cleaning:

How to replace the display in The Fairphone (Gen. 6/Gen. 6+) – Support (Europe)

So I’ve decided to go ahead and send it back to have it cleaned and/or have the front camera replaced. Thanks everyone for the feedback.
