FP6 not charging - Factory reset fixed it

My 8-months-old Fairphone 6 suddenly stopped charging.

  • I tried different chargers, none worked
  • I cleaned the USB-C port with a wooden stick and blew on it
  • I turned the phone off and on several times
  • I opened it but there was no visible damage

For a week I plugged it several times a day to check, it never charged. So I prepared it to send it to repair and used the 20% battery I had left to delete all data (factory data reset). Once done, I tried to charge it one last time… And it worked.

So it seems the problem was likely not hardware related. I’m super happy to have my phone back but I would like to know if anyone had a similar issue and if there is anything I could do to prevent it from happening again. I realised two things:

  • Last time I charged the phone before having the issue was with fast charge and I did notice the phone being very hot, could it be related?
  • I did have battery protection mode on and didn’t try to disable it, so it might have been an issue with this functionality?

When you never let the battery discharge or charge up to 100% the battery stats might just be wrong and a recalibration could fix it. Recalibration means let it discharge till it turns off, let it turned off and charhe to 100% . The factory reset should also reset battery stats
