Got my FP6 a couple of days ago and I am overall quite happy. However, so far i could’t get the Moments app to work. When I try to start it with the “switch” I receive an error message saying: “Fairphone Moments was repeatedly closed”.
When I am playing around with the switch settings everything else like the flashlight seems to work fine in connection with the switch. I only have problems with Fairphone Moments. When I try to open the Fairphone Moments settings it looks like an app is opening (i only see a gray screen) but within a second i am back in the settings.
In the app info it says the app version is 0.1.5. I am not super interested in using moments but I feel rather uncomfortable if one of the major features of my new phone don’t work.
Not the same, but a similar problem. Instead of ending up in the Settings when trying to trigger Fairphone Moments, I keep ending up in the Google Play start screen (I am not logged in).
While I was able to update Fairphone Moments (to the same app version 0.1.5 – operating system build number FP6.QREL.15.91.0) without logging in to Google Play, it seems to me as if logging into it was compulsory to make Fairphone Moments work.
Anyone being able to use Fairphone Moments without Google Play login
Hey there, thanks for your reply! That’s an interesting problem you describe. It seems like my problem starts at one step before yours as I am not even redirected to GPlay Store. But at least “good” to hear that I am not the only one having problems with Moments
Logging out where/how exactly? Havent added a Google Account since a very long time, however in the past removing it after it was added wasnt really an option I think
Just tried to find the log in page in the fscking Google maze, can’t find it again…
Meanwhile found the right page. I’m still logged out.
Google Apps are made invisible in “Smart Launcher” and never used/synchronized. Sole exception: Play Store.
(I can’t go away from Android/Google, because I have to provide support for my Sister (70), which, although security conscious, is in no way tech savvy…)
For me the app “Moments” is working as intended with all available firmware versions (delivered with FP6.QREL.15.84, OTA to FP6.QREL.15.91 last week and OTA to FP6.QREL.15.105 yesterday).
There was one update for the app itself in the Playstore which could be applied without account, no issues could be noticed.
My phone doesn’t have a Google account yet.
But the following findings I want to share with you, maybe it helps you with your problem.
I’ve noticed that after deactivation/deinstallation of some Google scrap apps (Chrome, Drive, Files, Gemini, Meet, Search, TV, Youtube) the “Moments”-switch and app doesn’t work as intendend. When activating the switch, I was led into the playstore in order to download something, but this missing app can’t be identified at the moment because the Playstore isn’t set up with an account.
I just updated (again, without a Google account) several Google apps on the FP6 (Fairphone Moments was not among these). While The Switch had triggered the same behaviour as before, after the Google updates it is now working for the first time.
Others affected from the problems, you might want to give it another try, too.
EDIT: Back to square 1 After a reboot, same as before. What remains new here is that after triggering The Switch, there is now the initial Fairphone Moments showing up for a fraction of a second before the same old Google Play starting screen.
