So I’m noticing this more in the summer temperatures, but my FP6 gets incredibly hot when I use a fast charger, to the extent that it’s almost uncomfortable to handle and remains so until a few minutes after I disconnect. Is this normal? It worries me a bit and makes me wonder whether it’s safe to leave it charging unsupervised…
Which charger exactly are you using?
I would not say it is normal. I was affected by death by fast charging. Are you on Android or e/os? Latest software?
I would set the phone to eco charge and contact support. And make regular backups.
I’ve also noticed that the temperature is increasing, that’s normal. But for me it feels just “warm” and not “hot”.
What is “extremely” hot? Have you measured the temperature? What’s the ambient temperature? This all needs to be taken in account to judge if it is a “critical” hot or not.
On the weekend, when I will charge my phone again, I’ll measure the temperatures on my phone an you can compare with the temperatures of your phone.

I can try to measure it but it can be hot enough that when handling it my hands get sore…so definitely - speaking very unscientifically here - in the hot range rather than warm
Hey, the temperature is displayed dynamicly in the My Fairphone app under “Phone → Device Status”.
Here in german:
I alway use a 18W charger with USB Power Delivery function. It fits eco and fast charging.
The temperature rises steadily from the displayed 25 degrees (which is also the ambient temperature) to max 32 degrees during fast charging:
It is likely intended to measure the ambient temperature, but since it is installed inside the device, the device’s temperature will presumably affect it.
Mine too gets very hot, not just warm. I try to avoid fast charging when possible, because I’m worried about deteriorating the OLED screen over time.
Is 32 °C too hot or even dangerous for the FP6?
I ask this because mine goes very easily to 37-38 (and sometimes 42) during battery charges, even if I have slow charging always activated and use the FP charger.

Normal operating temperatures for electronic devices range from 25-43°C. Slightly higher temperatures are also normal, especially during intense usage like gaming or system updates.
You can safely use your Fairphone when its internal temperature is between -10°C and +55°C. Note that below 0°C, the battery will discharge faster than usual.
Avoid charging your Fairphone if the ambient air temperature is above 40°C. If the internal phone temperature reaches 60°C, stop charging and immediately power off the device. Allow it a few minutes to cool down before powering on the device.
My FP5 overheats easily. Once it reached 48 degrees and I have received a warning (not sure if prompted by the system or one of my thermal monitoring apps). When it did, it felt properly hot to touch.
Mine seems to be reaching 45 degrees or so…it feels abnormally hot for a phone. Just got a response from support with a whole list of things to do…but I’d rather find out here how normal this is with a FP as, if it’s not, perhaps I need to use my warranty for a replacement device
Had a similar issue recently with my FP4 while using a charger from a different, purely chinese company device.
Unreasonable hot to touch. I’ve switched to an old battery I had as backup, switched the charger and it doesn’t heat up now.
Just to take in consideration, that the battery could become defective as well in certain circumstances.
Once my phone started heating up, it did so with all chargers and started draining way faster. Which is generally a tellyale sign somethings wrong. So lucky that I still had my old FP4 battery.
