FP6 fails to boot after update to /e/OS 3.1.2

I got a new FP6 from Murena’s webshop, got it up and running yesterday, and today, checked manually for OS updates and tried to install v3.1.0. (I had updated to 3.0.4-a15-20250708507307-official-FP6 yesterday.)

The update downloaded and began the installation. I didn’t babysit by the phone so I did not see what happened, but after some 15 minutes I pushed the power button to see what’s going on with the process. The screen stayed black, there was only a short vibration effect in response. Now, after some two hours the situation remains the same. The phone seems dead, except for the short vibration when I push the power button, and strangely, the flashlight lighting up if I push the power button slightly longer.

As you can probably read between the lines, I’m not an engineer, nor do I have a degree in computer science. Just a regular phone user (a despairing one). So please, if anyone has any advice, I appreciate it’s given in plain English and not in programming slang  Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the community forum.

Two things:

  • You might also want to ask over at Murena’s /e/OS forum, e.g. in this topic: Feedback for v3.1.1 - Build Feedback - /e/OS community
  • You could try to trigger a simple reboot. Either hold the power button for a very long time (it might take as long as 15 seconds), or you can enter the /e/ recovery by holding the POWER and the VOLUME UP button until it shows up on the display. The /e/ recovery should also allow a Reboot (perhaps called “Reboot system”, not sure right now).

Thank you for the fast reply! I had previously given up on holding the power button after about 10 seconds, now I persisted for fifteen and managed to boot in recovery mode.

Now there is a new problem, however: the phone rejects my SIM card. This problem persists after several regular reboots. Edit: there seems to be a dedicated thread for this problem at the Murena forum: Sim 1 Not allowed in e/os 3.1.2 ?!? - Using /e/OS - /e/OS community

Also, the version installed is NOT v3.1.0, but v.3.1.2

I did comb through the Murena forum earlier, but as far as I can tell no-one had had a similar issue.

I really recommend to sign up and ask over at the /e/ forum anyway. There is significantly more /e/xpertise there. If you ask there, ideally include a link to this topic as well so those willing to help can see what has been suggested and tried before.

Wait for another OTA update dated from September (but confusingly stll versioned at 3.1.2). See Feedback for v3.1.1 - #171 by Manoj - Build Feedback - /e/OS community for details.

Yes, spotted the solution this morning and it did the job. Confusing indeed that they publish updates under the same version number.
