I already have a dozen apps that don’t work properly/or at all on my FP5. I always contact the company and ask them about the issue, and all of them say that they don’t test their apps for such small brands, which is understandable.
But still, I would not expect this type of issue, as FP uses a pretty clean version of Android.
And I had a lot of weird Chinese phones and never ever had so many issues.
Wanted to upload a video as an example, but I see that is not possible, so I will just describe the problems. In the example is an app from DJI that is not working on my FP5, the app constantly changes between landscape and portrait, and crashes after… I just chatted with them for half an hour to try to fix it, but we were not able to, so they told me they will double-check it with another team and let me know.
Is this a known issue with FP? Or am I just being lucky with the apps I use?
Could be that the orientation sensor is broken or something. I’d try to turn off the automatic rotation and see if it gets any better.
Generally speaking all the apps on my phone just run smoothly, so it cannot be a generic issue.
As Martin said, that’s not normal. Do these apps have something in common?
To get help here in the forum you might want to list the apps with details of what’s not working, and don’t forget to specify which OS build you’re using, and how long you’ve had the phone, and any other info that might seem pertinent or particular to your use case.
You can always upload to some file-sharing site such as Proton, and share a link here.
What exact app? I have on FP5 “DJI Mimo”, although only little use yet, not see this problem, for drone i have another DJI app on tablet, but if this is what you use, i can install it on FP5 too…
It’s the latest version of the DJI GO app that is not working on my FP5, the app constantly changes between landscape and portrait, and crashes after, all I can do is log in, but it’s completely unusable as it constantly crashes. I also tried older versions of the app and they all do the same. DJI just got back to me saying that they double checked and the app works well on other Android 14 devices, so the issue must be on my side somewhere… It would be great if you would test it out on your FP5. Btw, DJI Mimo also works fine on my side too. DJI GO - Download Center - DJI
I’m thinking what they have in common, maybe that a few are a bit older, but they should still work on Android 14. But there are newer apps with issues, too.
Another thing that a few of them have in common is that they either have an issue in landscape or portrait, for example, the DJI Go app constantly changes between landscape and portrait, and crashes after. Another example is the Hover app, in this case, the issue appeared in the latest version of the app, where landscape mode was not working properly and was unusable as the on-screen buttons disappeared, and the orientation was just a zoomed-in version of the portrait mode. I was able to show them the issue and they said they might be able to fix it, but again, they said it’s because of the phone brand/model, as they didn’t have this issue on other Android devices.
Another thing in common is that a few apps just shut down instantly when I open them or randomly somewhere in the app (usually in the first minute of using it). These were some random weather apps and home appliances from Xiaomi, like robot vacuums and air purifiers.
I’m using the default FP OS Android 14 the phone came with, and with the latest updates installed. I had my FP5 for around half an year. I still have my old phone that is stuck on Android 9 and all of the apps work on that one without issues.
You’ll be using a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi connection for the drone and maybe other devices. I recommend you turn off Bluetooth at those times to prevent interference.
Also avoid using Bluetooth on other devices in the vicinity of the phone.
I don’t even have to turn on the other devices, I only open the app and it’s not working and shutting down. Tried both with BT on/off, same for Wifi or mobile data. It doesn’t make any difference.
Tried both autorotate on/off, same thing, does not matter.
Desktop mode, never used it, didn’t even know where it is, but looked it up and it’s disabled.
Yes, I use a very common launcher (Nova Launcher), but I tried using the default one too, and it does the same things. I had this launcher on all my previous phones and never had any issues with it.
PS: double checked everything once again, and nothing makes a difference, really don’t know what could be the issue.
I would appreciate it if somebody, for example, could install the DJI Go app on their FP5 running the default Android 14, and confirm if it’s working or not. I’m really curious now to see if it’s something wrong with my device or with FP in general.
I installed the V 3.1.82 that you cited, despite repeated warnings of outdated and potentially dangerous software.

This app was built for an older version of Android. It might not work properly and doesn’t include the latest security and privacy protections. Check for an update or contact the app’s developer.

Installing this app may put your device at risk.
I suggest you install a version that is compatible with A14.
So i install DJI Go3 v3.1.82…
When first run, few times switch portrain/landscape (i have autorotate disabled), login form keep as landscape with little overlaped names of field captcha text etc, but login, show me selection of Drones or Camera, try press first Camera button, this show me Camera UI in landscape, no crash…
But overlaping directed me, problem is based on my custom “dp” in Developer Settings “Drawing/Smallest width” (i use 511)…
So i go to “Settings/Display/Display size and text” and tap on “Reset settings”, the. delete Go3 data and run it again, now ui don’t switch portrain/landscape but show in portrain, login form not overlaped text, app don’t crash…
Next i go again to Display size ant text, and set smaller interface and smaller font, run GO3 and this time manytimes switch portrain/landscape and black screen and crash…
Also i remembered similar problem i have with Reolink APP, crash with specific display text size and/or custom DP… I finish with try DP one by one more and less (from 450 to 530 i think), to find 511 is ok size for me AND Reolink dont crash …
If the fairphone is not your productive device, you could start from scratch, resetting the device and installing the apps one by one to see if those work as intended on a vanilla system.
Maybe some of the angels could comment if that seems like a good idea.
Wow, you are the real MVP, sir! Not even ChatGPT and DJI support figured out the issue. So it seems like the app has an issue with a specific combination of Font and Display size of the FP5.
Seems like the issue with switching between landscape/portrait and crashing after was because of this. Now the app seems to work fine. Thanks so much for your help!
