FP4 Touchscreen sluggish - phone getting old?

I’ve a FP4 for a couple of years now and my touchscreen starts getting sluggish. I’ve read threads here, but mostly, it appears, it’s about software (navigation buttons unresponsive etc. I have that, too, but reboot fixes that and I’m fine to reboot once or twice a month)

What I’m talking is that at the edges of the screen, it becomes unresponsive, eg the close (x) in the top right, or sandwich menus in the top left don’t work. In the center no problem. This looks to me a hardware issue.

Note that, although I don’t use screen protector, my screen shows not the slightest hint of scratches (chapeau, fairphone! The phone is chipped at every corner from the occasional drops, but screen still nickel as new. I’m deeply impressed!!)

Is there a fix to this (new screen?) or sign of old age? Be honest. I’m flirting with the idea of buying FP6, anyway…

Also “rocking” a couple of years’ old FP4 and also having some inconveniences with the touchscreen. Sometimes it’s “ghost” touches and sometimes it’s unresponsive edges. It seems to me that cleaning the screen with a moisture cloth improved the situation significantly.

Do you recommend both sides? Meaning, taking the screen out, clean front and back and then mount it back in?

I have had the same problem for a long tiime, for me the left top side is unresponsive and I get ghost taps as well.

I don’t remove the screen. I clean it only from the outside.

If there might be a fairphoneangel with an FP4 close to you, you could possibly try to exchange the screen for a test to check if it’s a HW problem with the screen. In that case replacing the screen with a new one would probably help.
