FP4 randomly stops recognising the physical SIM

,

Hi everyone,

Sorry for not responding to the comments that mentioned me, the issue mostly solved itself after a few system updates.

Another reason is that I didn’t have a good experience with FP support, they were extremely slow.

By the time FP offered to take the phone in to take a look (which I declined), the issue was happening much more rarely, and nowadays, I can’t even remember when was the last time it happened.

Does anyone have any suggestions for what to do if I have had this problem for over a year now? I ended up just turning off one sim card but now I need both to work again.

Hi all, happy new year!
I am not sure if I am experiencing the same issue but I suddenly lost any connection on my Fairphone 4 - I’ve been using my (UK giffgaff) SIM card in roaming mode for a few weeks before I suddenly lost connection 3 days ago. At the moment, the mobile connection icon looks like an empty triangle with a “!” next to it, with the words “no service”/“emergency calls only”.
I’ve tried multiple times to restart the phone, switch the airplane mode on & off, take the SIM card out and clean it - but nothing seems to be working.
It might be that my SIM card is too old but does anyone have any ideas what I can do now to either regain connection or diagnose the issue before going back to the UK and checking if the phone works with a new SIM?

I had worsening trouble with my giffgaff SIM for a while - it seemed to progress from needing to toggle Airplane mode, then restart the device, and finally reached the point where it just wasn’t working any more. I tried cleaning the contacts with isopropyl alcohol which didn’t help.

I finally got around to testing another SIM in the device and my SIM in a different device, which fairly clearly indicated the SIM to be at fault. I used the giffgaff app to replace the SIM with an eSIM, which it did automatically and worked after a few minutes & a restart of the device.

Replace the Sim. I had the same trouble and replacing the Sim solved it.
I’ve been told Sim cards also wear out and need replacement every some many years. Of course this is about a physical sim not an eSim

Hello,

I am suffering this issue for the last 3 days. Physical SIM card disappears and get “emergency calls only”. It is curious because initially only data connection was affected. I have to restart device to recover SIM, nothing else. This must be a software issue, maybe a regression, because I think it is something that happened in the past. Is there any way to troubleshoot this better?

Thank you.

Hello,

After reinserting physical SIM card issue has not repeated for the 8 days. The card was not dirty or incorrectly placed.
