🇬🇧 đŸ‡«đŸ‡· FP4 not charging / ProblĂšme de charge - Crucial accessibility tool

(french version below)

Hi everyone,

I’m reaching out because my Fairphone 4 has stopped charging. I have already opened a support ticket (#1409053**)**, but I haven’t received a human response yet and I am in a very difficult situation.

The issue:

  • The phone still works but doesn’t react at all when plugged in (no LED, no charging icon).

  • I have tested multiple chargers and cables that work perfectly with other devices.

  • I have carefully cleaned the USB-C port with a toothpick and compressed air.

  • The central tongue of the port doesn’t seem bent.

  • I suspect the bottom module might be faulty.

  • Internal diagnostic (##2886##) result: USB, Charging and Current all show “Unknown” even after plugging in the cable.

Why it’s urgent: I am tetraplegic and this phone is my primary tool for autonomy. I use it daily for voice control, home automation (domotics), and managing my care assistants. Being without it isn’t just a daily inconvenience; it’s a major blow to my safety and independence.

What I need:

  • Has anyone experienced a sudden failure of the bottom module?

  • Are there any other “last chance” software or hardware resets I should try?

  • Is there a Fairphone Angel near Toulouse (France) who could help me perform a cross-test with another bottom module to confirm the diagnosis?

Thanks in advance for your help and kindness.

pablo

As the forum is a user forum, we cant help with your ticket. The probably fastest solution is to order the USB-Port and replace it, if it fixes your issue try to get a refund.

Fairphone 4 batteries can be charged in fitting universal external smartphone battery chargers, while waiting for a solution to the issue

I recently had the same problem with FP4. After much testing other leads and doing all the tests you mention I got a new USB port from Fairphone. I am not a DIY expert or a techie but I surprised myself by installing it successfully and it solved the problem. If you have a friend who is careful and has access to the right screwdriver it is not a difficult job. The discussion below about external chargers is interesting but not practical for you I assume? I was very happy to have rescued the fp4 which is now charging and working perfectly again.

Thank you all for your quick and very helpful replies, I really appreciate it.

Given your feedback and the tests I’ve done (multiple chargers, port cleaning, and especially the internal diagnostic menu showing ‘Unknown’), it seems the bottom module is almost certainly the issue.

To the experts here: In your experience with the FP4, is there any other component that could cause this total lack of response from the USB port? If you think the diagnosis is solid, I’ll order the part right away to save time.

The suggestion of a universal external battery charger is also an excellent backup plan that I’ll look into to avoid being stuck in the future.

Thanks again for your valuable help!
