FP4: After Android 15 update, phone wont boot, stuck with green bar

Hi everyone,

I tried the update to Android 15 this morning but, after updating, I get the same error as FP 5 users earlier this year. Except I am on FP4.

I know how to get back to Android 13, and there it tells me the update didnt finish.

Problem is, i would wait until its fixed, but after the failed update, every sound output is stuttering every 10 seconds. So the failed update messed up something.

I tried to Reinstall, even in Safe Mode and there is enough space. But it doesn’t work. It sounds like the Fingersensor issue on FP5…

All the best,

Ex

Hi, welcome to the forum and thanks for the information.

I agree this sounds similar to the FP5 problem which was related to dysfunctional fingerprint sensor. However, in the FP5 case the update itself was successful, the problem lay in booting A15. In the case you report, it sounds more as though the update itself didn’t complete properly.

Does the fingerprint sensor of your unit function?

It’s certainly necessary to report the problem to official Support, either via the MyFairphone app or using the website https://support.fairphone.com

Hi, I have the exact same issue with my fairphone 4, it boots until the green line then freezes, start over a few times, only to boot android 13 again.

I have no sound issues afterward however.

Hello and welcome to the community
I have noted that you voted in the survey on the update which was released a few days after your post

Could you then specify

  • what build you are currently on?
  • is your phone usable apart from the issues with update?
  • is the update FP4.SREL.15.14.4 offered to you?

Please also let us know which network you are using.

Hi Meaghan,

my build number is FP4.TP31.C.0143.20250917

Yes, im offered the update you mentioned.

Yes, despite this the Phone works, the Sound Problem adjust automatically after 2 hours but resets after ever restart.

Updating the OS is still not possible.

All the best,

So thats another update than in your intial report. So did you report to support and what did they say? Whats your country and provider? Do you have anything installed blocking internet/using VPN etc?

I already gabe all this info to support, but they kust responded with a standard email I should use their repair site for opening a ticket, which I already did and since then I never heard from them. Thats several weeks ago.

The only thing I have active and comes close to what you wrote is a mobile norton anti virus.

But I wasnt suspicious, because other updates worked with Norton activated in the background.

Now, I bought a new phone already, I still want to use the FP as a home phone, but it seems the problem never gets fixed.

I have the same problem with FP4.TP2V.C.0137.20250703.

Upgrade to 15 fails and fallbacks to A13.
