FP3+ seems no longer to have my camera photos stored - only a few

Hi - don’t know exactly when it happened as I’ve not copied images across to my computer for three months or so. Now I can no longer see my photos in DCIM where they used to be, only the last very recent ones and a few from 2020 (there were lots from 2019 to now).

I’ve searched both on the phone and via Windows Explorer through both the FP3+ and the SD card (external storage). There are more folders called ‘camera’ or ‘pictures’ but none of them have the images that were in the DCIM folder.

I can still see all photos on the Google OneDrive I use as back-up. The camera setting is set to saving on the phone. Is it just that it’s time to get a new phone??

There’s no such thing as Google OneDrive. Google Drive (via Google Photos) and Microsoft OneDrive, however, both have an option to remove photos from the device once you’ve uploaded them. I presume that that’s what’s occurring. Storage device corruption doesn’t appear as you describe it to, generally.

Thank you very much, that’s really helpful. It’s Google drive then though I didn’t change the settings so still flummoxed how it happened. Will check them now if I can find them!

PS: Maybe I briefly turned on Google Storage Manager without being aware? Then it would have started removing backed-up photos…

@Smiliest_German, perhaps. Google One (and com.android.settings, maybe) include some dark patterns that enable Google Photos backup without the user’s intent to do so, and the default storage retainment preference is local deletion. It’s silly.

@Smiliest_German you could perhaps share the settings for the camera that are currently on the phone.
How is the storage situation? Are pictures saved by default on a SD card? But if using screenshots please do not share any personal data

I am glad you haven’t lost your photos!

I don’t use Google Backup, prefer to handle it with a syncthing. But then I have to remember that if I delete picture, it would be gone from all the devices, a bit scary if something goes wrong

Thank you both. Appreciate your help!

The settings are to save on the phone and there is enough storage on that.
The SD card is quite full.

If I ever have time I may try and copy the photos back onto the FP3+…

But think will also get another external harddrive to back up all my
photos, inc. from FP1!
