FP3 Official software support and spare part sales will conclude in August

I’m not well versed in this, but it says “placement on the market”, not “sold”.

Wouldn’t this mean that if they manufactured the last FP3 in 2020 and put those units on the online store that year, but sold them in 2022*, the timer would go from 2020? It does not say “from the point of last sale”. Selling the shelf supply of FP3s instead of throwing them out is a sustainable choice, so I hope this would the case. If, of course, the FP3 would fall under these rules.

I’m questioning this because in my opinion, if it was about the last unit sold, it would punish companies for selling their older supply.

(*) (probably with a fat discount, and as @yvmuell noted, knowing well that it’s an old unit)

hello
this EU label should apply to all the smartphones placed on the market in or after June 2025 (definitely not FP3+ then).

We have the discussion on it here

I remember vaguely checking and selling by the company and placing on the market are pretty similar (but I assume it does not concern resellers selling last units some time after).

Thanks! Yes, I was aware the FP3 does not have anything to do with this, I was just hypothetically wondering, since it at least affects newer phones then.

Interesting, it makes me worried that this promotes destroying stock instead of selling it as a discount, but I hope that’s taken into account.

Hello everyone. Excuse me if this has already been answered above, but please could you clarify which OS I should put on my phone if I want security updates after August? Will LOS have the same limitations as Android? What about eOS?

I see some people further up the thread have mentioned eOS but I didn’t see the fairphone on the list of supported phones on eOS’s website? I must have misread something.

Hello
Fairphone 3 is definitely supported by e/OS.

I guess you would need more research on choosing the OS

Oh I get a choice? Nice! Many thanks Meaghan

Even as Android support ends for Fairphone 3 after 7 years, we will keep it running securely with /e/OS for two more years—no need to replace your device.

By continuing the support, Murena reinforces the common mission with Fairphone to reduce electronic waste and give you real ownership over your devices.

Install /e/OS on your Fairphone 3 and enjoy the OS that respects your privacy.
