I am experiencing a very slow GPS fix with my FP3+ since about one year. So probably after some software update. I bought it 5 years ago on fairphone online shop, it runs /e/OS latest updates, and I am happy with it, except this GPS issue, as I do a lot of trekking.
It can takes up to 20 min to get the position most of the time.
One thing I notice is that when the mobile network is bad (e.g. trekking in the mountain), it will not succeed at all. When I am in a city or with decent mobile network, it is still slow but finally succeeds.
I tried GPSTest app, and it is very slow as well.
Is it a known issue ? or should I raise a ticket to support service ?
In the menu you can refresh the AGPS data (a kind of list of satellite positions). This refresh is normally done when you switch on the location service, but it only works when you’re online. SatStat can do that regularly in the background.
To keep you updated, I did install LineageOS in place of /e/OS to be sure this was not a software issue. But no change…
After that, I start to disassemble all parts and check the rear module where the antenna is located. And the problem was there, see picture below : the phone did fall down one day and antenna was damaged.
At least, I found the root cause. Now I have to find a new rear module to replace and fix the issue. Sadly, this part is not sold by Fairphone…
