FP3 battery performance suddenly dropped + slow startup

Hi all

My FP3 battery suddenly started draining two times faster than usual … It used to last almost two days easily under normal usage and since last week I barely make it through one day.
Also, when switching off airplane mode in the morning, the phone takes quite some time before it behaves normally. During the first few minutes it is super slow, not really responding, screen turning back a few times …
Anyone with similar issues ?
It’s the first time I really encounter problems with this phone. Especially with the battery I had always been super happy. I find it normal that battery performance decreases over time but it was very sudden, not a progressive drop.
Only special thing that happened to the phone lately is that I was on holiday and battery got completely emptied twice because I had no access to electricity to charge the phone and used it until the battery died. Don’t know if it could be enough to kill the battery?

Thank you in advance for your help!
If it continues and I can’t fix the issues, I will probably contact support or at least try to borrow a battery to see if it makes a difference before ordering a new one as it might not be the solution.

Can you try a complete reset and reinstallation of all apps?
Is there some space left on device?
Do you use a charge limiter to e.g. 95% ?
Did you use the energy saving mode and is it disabled now?

Hi Romane,
asking a few question that could maybe help identify the problem:

  • Did you already look into the Battery usage for any anomaly like one app having a usage that is close to your Smartphone uptime?
  • When was the last time you rebooted?
  • Did you install a new app that may be causing this?
  • Did you check the health status of your battery with something like Cpu-Z?

Thank you for your answer!

I don’t se anything abnormal, I’ve checked a few times the past few days and it usually looks a lot like on this screenshot.
  • When was the last time you rebooted?
My phone randomly rebooted this morning. And I rebooted quite often lately to try to fix the battery issue.
  • Did you install a new app that may be causing this?
    No…
  • Did you check the health status of your battery with something like Cpu-Z ?
I tried this app and it says “good”.

I am really annoyed because the battery life used to be one of the strongest point of this phone.

Thank you for your message!
I have almost 20 GB left on the device.
I have not tried reinstalling everything, it sounds quite time consuming…
I don’t use a 95% limit and I only use the battery saver when travelling or when I know I might run out of battery.

I have the same problem. It start this week. fp3+

@Romane_Breysse Two question that came to my mind, after that i am clueless:

  • Did you got a new charger/cable? Or used one from a friend? Maybe it somehow damaged the battery?
  • @Joze_Stensak If two people habe the same problem maybe its software? Did you both maybe do an update (of the OS) before the problems started?

I announce that I managed to save the battery. I completely drained it twice so the phone turned itself off. Now the battery is behaving normally again.

Yes. I was update phone.

@Joze_Stensak nice that everything is back for normal for you.
Unfortunately I still have the same issues, battery performance is really not great, barely making it through a day sometimes, while battery used to last 1.5 to 2days, and again it was a sudden drop, not a progressive decline.
My mother in law has the same phone and I’m planning to try her battery next time we see each other, then I can check if it’s really just the battery.
On top of the battery issue, my phone has also become quite buggy, sometimes turning off for no reason, and apps are often crashing. I often get the message “system UI not responding”. Phone can be quite slow, especially just after turning off airplane mode or when battery is low.
I hope it will magically get fixed, maybe after some update. I’m afraid otherwise I won’t keep this phone much longer, which would defeat the whole purpose of getting a FP.

Can you check if you battery is swollen?
See the battery spin test.

Just did the test, no spinning.
Also would be surprise if it’s just a battery problem as my phone has also gotten very slow, very suddenly and it happened at the same time as the drop in battery performance.
It’s a lot slower and I get so many error messages like ‘process system has stopped’ ‘app has stopped, do you wanna close it’…

Do you use a SD card?
What is your last update number?

No SD card, I’ve never used one with this phone.
Last update was a security update on the 5th of June but can’t find the update number.

For the update number go to the app Settings, scroll down to About phone and then tap on Android version.
where you can find the Build number. (I have no Fairphone 3, I think it’s the same as on my Fairphone 5)
As you say you are on security update on the 5th of June, I guess you are up to date list update Fairphone 3(+).

Are your apps up to date?
Can you check if there are app that use much battery usage.
Go to the app Settings, Battery, Battery usage.

@Romane_Breysse already checked the battery usage, further up in the posts. Nothing was out the ordinary.

Thank you for your replies !
Here are some screenshots.
The battery usage display is currently very weird, another bug I guess.
One thing I find strange is that battery is 52% but if you sum the use of the different apps you’re far from 48%, is that normal?

Yes, that is normal. I checked on mine FP3.
What is not normal is the graph, 52 days ago was probably not the last time you fully charged your battery.

Did you get a chance to swap the battery?

On top of the battery issue, my phone has also become quite buggy, sometimes turning off for no reason, and apps are often crashing. I often get the message “system UI not responding”

And maybe you could try backuping all your data and a fresh install? It still could be that something in your operating system somehow broke, even if that is unlikely.

I was wondering if you found a cause for your problems. Because I’m having similar issues, and when thinking back it seems they started after a recent OS software update. I used to be able to use my phone for 24h without charging, but that dropped 50% within one or two days it seems.

I was already looking for a different (non-fair :frowning:) phone for other reasons (camera being the main one), but this is speeding up the urgency to find one.
