FP 4 bootloop as soon as battery is plugged

It has been more than 1 month since I contacted FP support, but no response yet… My Fairphone 4 has been rebooting constantly after a few seconds as if the on/off button was pressed constantly. Without touching any button it turns on and off continuously after 3-4 seconds (sometimes you get to the blue dots). I tried to remove the battery but it starts again as soon as the battery is reinstalled without touching any buttons. It is not possible to access safe mode (volume up or down at startup) because it turns off and reboots as soon as this screen is visible. Plugging in the phone does not change behavior. Same with or without sim card.

Can you help me please ?

Hi AIS,

did your FP4 drop to the floor or did it get in contact with fluids? Your power button might be blocked mechanically or bridged by some fluid inside the button. Either way it could possibly be fixed by disassembling the FP4 and unblock the button or remove moisture from the switch. See also ✏ How to handle water damage

Hi Robert,

Thank you for your answer ! I finally found time to disassemble my FP. There is no moisture inside and the button doesn’t seem to be mechanically blocked (or maybe inside ? ). Anyway, I finally found a solution to use the FP : putting paper between connectors so that they can’t connect. In this way the power button is disconnected, but the volume buttons are disconnected as well.

I can now use the FP even if the button doesn’t work : I use a power hack to switch it on (How to boot my FP4?) and the fingerprint sensor to unlock it.

Do you know if there is a way to disconnect the power button but not the volume button ?

Thank you once more !

AIS

HI AIS,
if you have a look at

at step 11 and zoom in the right picture, you can see that there is a small flat cable that looks to me as if it is connecting the power button with the motherboard. No idea whether it is connecting only the power switch itself or also the fingerprint reader. You have to try to disconnect it to find out, but be careful not to damge the cable!

Sorry, I don’t have time at the moment to try it myself.

Greets Robert
