Thanks for the link, just posted my “findings” there Hope it helps.
just as an update, I’m now on Calyx 5.7.0 from may 5th. I have installed the old fairphone camera version v2.0.010(10091800-01) com.fp.camera and tried to install the new version but still no luck. Not compatible with device.
Some hope for those on /e/OS on the FP4:
hopefully that’s something other custom ROMs will be able to leverage, too
Now official, from /e/OS v. 2.2 release notes:
Fairphone 4
- You’ll now be able to enjoy Fairphone’s default camera app to take pictures if you want to, you just need to enable one setting in
Settings
>Apps
>Fairphone Camera
and reboot your phone. Warning though, for now the video mode does not work, it’ll be fixed in a next release.- The 48MP/50MPx mode has been added into /e/OS Camera for this phone
Fairphone 5
- The 48MP/50MPx mode has been added into /e/OS Camera for this phone
EDIT (25 July 2024 at 16:30 Amsterdam time): Specified required settings
That is amazing! Could that also work on Calyx OS?
And with 2.4 also coming for the FP5
- You’ll now be able to enjoy Fairphone’s default camera app on your Fairphone 5 to take pictures and videos if you want to, you just need to enable one setting and reboot your phone
- The video mode of Fairphone’s default camera app is now working on the Fairphone 4
The “one setting” is most likely: Settings > Apps > Fairphone Camera
Hello to the forum,
I bought an Fairphone 5 and installed the iodéOS 5.5 alternative android 14 system. But I’d like to have the original camera app of the original FP5 operating system.
As I didn’t find an applyable solution in this forum, now my question:
Would somebody so nice to extract the camera apk of the current FP5 operating system with an app like “APK Extractor” and send it to me so that I can try an installation?
Thanks in advance
Regards
Hi, I moved your post here. As you can see from the discussion here so far, there’s only partial progress here (only for /e/OS users), and just extracting the .apk doesn’t seem to generally work (although there is one single success story further up from some months ago).
Hi urs_lesse,
I found this post and it has NOTHING to do with my question - sorry.
I just want to have the APK for my own trials end errors and not messages of any progress of developing the original camera in some OS’s (e.g. Calyx OS). And most of the answers as I got it concern the FP4.
Another thing that I didn’t see is that someone tried extracing it from a running /e/OS with a specialized app. There are only trials mentioned extracting it from a zipped image…
But ok, maybe I have to wait that someone will port it to iodéOS

I agree with Urs, that we dont need more topics around this topic and there are more
And here is a link to a tutorial how to extract, you dont need anyone to do it, as far as I can read
Hi there! Let’s clear up some misunderstandings quickly.
A link has been posted for the official Fairphone camera APK higher up in this thread. Alternatively, you can extract the APK yourself from the latest FPOS image Fairphone themselves provide on their website.
However there has been little success getting it to run in any other OS than Fairphone’s own. You’re free to test it and tinker with it. In fact, please DO share with the community if you manage to get it running on iodé in any way.
If I may, I recommend this specific version of GCam (version 9.2.113) to use, as I have to say, it is superior to the stock camera app in picture quality in every way. It does use the Fairphone’s extra sensor for quick and accurate auto focus. The only caveat is that 60fps video recording isn’t available, no matter the chosen resolution, so you might as well only use 4k30.
EDIT: Just to not leave you completely hanging, here’s my apk I just extracted from my FP5 via GoogleFiles.
Link will be live until 14th of October 2024.
Hi Nabalasz,
thank you for help and the apk - but I haven’t been able to install it. My installer (“Apk Installer” app) told me that it couldn’t install the apk because it it is not compatible with my phone.
I guess I was like the apostele Thomas: “I only believe what I see!” (analogous…) - sorry for that.
But meanwhile I tested an open source camera app “Open Camera for iodéOS” in the F-Droid store which make a good impression to me. And it supports all three cameras of my Fairphone 5.
What I haven’t found out yet was if the app is able to use the Fairphone 5’s auto focus sensor when using the camera2 api…

Apology accepted. Glad we cleared it up.
You can check wether the auto focus sensor works, by covering it with your finger, and see if the viewfinder suddenly goes out of focus. For me, gCam immediately tries to focus close if I cover the sensor.
Or just point your camera at something shiny, like a mirror. The sensor should glow in the preview image, as the camera can see it’s own infrared in the mirror. If it glows, it should be working.
I just downloaded the APK (first link), and it works on my FP5 (CalyxOS 5.11.3). However, I think thats the APK for the FP4 (the FP5 file you linked doesn’t apear to be a valid APK file for me). Still great tho.
Edit: Just noticed that it only uses the 0.5 Camera for everything, a little weird, but as I said, its the APK for FP4.
