Fingerprint sensor bypass pocket mode

Hi,

i noticed that the pocket mode have a isue on my Fairphone 5.

im wondering if its a Fairphone isue or its just me?

when i lock the phone when pocket mode is enabled the phone will still unlock when covering the screen and touching the fingerprint scanner.

something wat can happen accidentally in my pocket when i keep my hand in that same pocket.

now i know why i dit make pocket calls way to often.

dit someone else noticed this?

greetings

Tom

I dont think the pocket mode should deactivate the fingerprit sensor it should rather ensure to keep the display locked/dark to avoid accidental touches.

Hi

post edited, i think we dit misunderstood each other sorry for that.

for me it sounds very strange that it should not deactivate the scanner.
whiteout that it will not avoid accidental touches in my situation.

i just found the setting, testing the pocket mode, it doos protected against pressing (in my setup) the pincode by accident.
or calling the emergency services.

wat is a very smal chance i will say.

i know in for me a accidentally press of the fingerprint scanner when the phone is in my pocket will be much more likely.

wat i see testing it:

covering the sensors on purpose, the phone wake up after pressing the power button withe a pen (finger will unlock it), i see a warning that pocket mode is actief and will not show the options from the lock screen. as expected.

in the main time the home screen wallpaper shows on the background, bit strange behaviour i will say. I will have expected the lock screen wallpaper or just a black background. the picture is not displayed properly its stretch out. but that’s a different isue wat not really bother me, normal i will not see that screen anyway. the phone is in me pocket.

greetings

Tom

Well as said I dont think the pocket mode is meant to lock the fingerprint sensor. If you dont want the fingerprint sensor to unlock the phone directly you have to disable that in the settings, however thats not only in pocket then, but always

That would be a good option in the settings, if you can disable the fingerprint sensor in pocket mode.

I’m on /e/OS, so maybe you haven’t the same setting…

I find this where I can save my fingerprints.
With this setting, only if the display is on the fingerprints unlock works.

Same on FPOS

For some reason it’s not translated

Thank you @jobal for sharing the setting!

Thank you @Furdiburd for checking it on FPOS and the (kind of) English screenshot!

my opinion will still be that the phone should not unlock a in pocket even white this fingerprint setting enabled, but it makes much more sense to me now.

edit: checkt again, my phone still unlock in my pocket, now have to press the power button twice, so much less likely :+1::slightly_smiling_face:.

It’s a bit ironic that unlocking the phone outside my pocket requires exactly the same actions.

i still consider the pocket mode as ‘partly’ broken. well, that just my opinion.
