Most Android tutorials on the internet will assume you use Android with all the Google services and Apps, because this is a halfway standardized experience (even if smartphone vendors like to mess with the user interface).
If you want to have Android without Google services and Apps, you will not get far without a bit of effort .

Sorry, I seem to have worded that wrong.
Of course there’s a contacts App in Fairphone Open OS (without Google), I just don’t know whether it’s the same App as in Fairphone OS (with Google), so I don’t know whether contacts imported before an OS switch would be kept.
