trying to unlock the bootloader, adb detects my phone when i do “adb reboot bootloader” it takes me to the bootloader but then when i do “fastboot flashing unlock” or “fastboot oem unlock” it just says “waiting for devices”, there is also the other fastboot mode accessed thru the recovery menu in which fastboot devices detects my phone but “fastboot oem unlock” or similar commands dont work. It also says “secure boot - yes”, how do i turn this off?
Kindly confirm the mode you are in when using fastboot flashing unlock? Fastbootd would be wrong
I use fastboot to re-root my phone regularly after OTAs. I noticed it often cannot send the boot image immediately but after restart the bootloader (one of the options in the fastboot screen). Maybe you can try to restart the bootloader while leaving your fastboot command open, waiting for device.
well, there is one i get by typing “adb reboot bootloader”, which does not work, fastboot devices does not work, there is the one i get from the recovery menu (by pressing enter fastboot, the one with blue text) where fastboot devices does work but fastboot oem unlock does not work and fastboot flashing unlock is not even recognized
Enter fastboot is the wrong mode you need bootloader.
Do you use a windows PC or Linux?
well, in bootloader fastboot devices does not detect my fairphone. I use windows.

windows does not detect any optional updates even when the fairphone is connected, and no it is not because of the cable i am literally using the recommended data transfer cable for it
