What a bullsh*t. If you align with Musks Twitter policies, why are you here? The values of Fairphone can not mean much for you.

First of all, there’s no need to get agitated. Secondly I too would like people to care more about Fairphone’s mission. However, a lot of people (in my experience) bought a FP just because you can replace your battery easily. And that’s already it. They’ve never cared deeply about Fairphone and what Fairphone actually try to accomplish (in its entirety) nor was that ever a requirement that you need to comply with Fairphone’s moral to buy a FP.

Fairphone should expand its idea beyond itself and not only produce devices. It would be good to create some kind of certification or transfer process, to allow other manufacturers ro create fair devices as well. There are already a range of interesting manufaturers FRAMEWORK, KDE Slimbook, Kubuntu Focus Systems, Tuxedo, Pine64 who would fit to the charactor of Fairphone, but could do with a more fair device production. On the other hand I would like to see a fair devices software alliance between Fairphone, Shiftphone and I think there are others as well, to bundle development resource on the OS. There is a lot of room for improvement here and may be bundling resources is the way to go. Regarding the Fairphone, I would love to see an easy installation tool for custom rooms which allows a no sweat installation of other roms and to switch between them for testing.

I know that ultimately, the branding Fairphone use doesn’t detract from the great work they’re doing BUT, I was a fan of the old font and colour palette. Bit of a shame they’re gone green…so to speak…

It is the opposite actually: if you have out millions of pieces a customer care office costs you 0.00000x€/piece, if you only have out some thousands a small customer care office, specially fairly managed like we can expect an European one being, could wipe out the revenue on these pieces.
FP is a nice try and I hope they will become the 1st brand in the world, they deserve it, but so far they simply don’t have the resources to provide a up to the standards customer care, this we should have it clear. They may get there once their business becomes big enough, but for now buying a FP is like embarking in an adventure, being like a pioneer.

This would be the real game changer. The possibility to replace ONLY what is got really worn or obsolete, keeping what’s still working well or at least decently. That would dramatically reduce the electronic waste, and also the recycling process I think would get easier if phone parts are going to be treated singularly from the beginning instead of having to be disassembled and separated.

Is this a greenwashing thing? Com’on… What was the need for rebranding THIS much using a so unique green color? Looks like the green background used by MacDonalds in Europe…

@Nabalazs, that’s infeasible. Creating an AOSP-native Discourse client would be a significant technical endeavour.

Oh nonono I don’t mean that. I just mean the built in browser inside the app.

@Nabalazs, that would be a poor idea too. It looks like it’s using embedded Chromium in the stead of a com.google.android.webview instance.

However, even if it did, would you want to have credentials and authorisation tokens saved in the Fairphone application? Just access the URI from a proper internet browser, like Chrome or Firefox.

It’s silly that the application doesn’t invoke a standard intent that would do that automatically [1] – another testament to FP’s poor software design practices.

Not to be negative, but how do we know that they are doing the right thing based on this marketing fluff of an announcement, exactly?

I’m not saying that Fairphone isn’t helping people in one way or another, I’m just saying that the announcement is incredibly empty and boils down to “We’re changing our logo” while there are still year old bugs to be fixed, the customer support still stinks, the communication is still atrocious, etc.

Next chapter with glow in the dark green (which completely does not blend well with the green used in case). April Fools’ Day started early this year. A missed opportunity, too, since there are more fair products by Fairphone. Yet, the brandname doesn’t cover the products anymore. On top of that there’s a (friendly) project Fairbike apparently.

Fairphone should join Mastodon. Maybe running an own instace!

Sources?! :see_no_evil: Sorry my dear friend(s) but I didn’t mean to imply I was quoting official statistics sources. (I do like your double-check attitude, though)

Infact I was reminiscing from my own memories and experiences which go back all the way to when Fairphone was founded.

Apart from doing quite a lot of one-on-one (Fairphone) community service (i.e. talking with all sorts of people about Fairphone and why they should invest in one way or another) ever since, I’ve been also a vivid reader of this community forum ( for some years now but became active only quite recently) and from that I drew my latest conclusions.

Yes, I really think, a surprisingly large amount of Fairphone customers (in my experience) have either not understood (i.e. Fairphone also does not communicate it very well) what Fairphone is about nor do they care much (more than just their phones being easily repairable).

And that’s OK. I really would like it to be different but we should not demand it or even exclude people who think differently from joining this community. Rather explain (calmly) why we feel that to be a contradiction…

Either way I was indeed generalizing in my previous post a bit too much as there are clearly plenty of nuances which I did ignore (on purpose and) due to my main point being “dude chill, we gotta accept that not everyone feels the same as we do.”

I apologize and did some editing on my original post hoping that it doesn’t look like me spreading false facts any more.

But since you’re not agreeing with me (at all?), I’d like to know your side of the story, your experiences which may have turned out to be completely different! Afterall that’s why we’re here as well, right? To share our Fairphone stories?!
