Fairphone issue with wired headphones

Had an issue for a few months now with my Fairphone 5 where my wired headphones have started randomly disconnecting more and more frequently to the point where they only now work if I hold the adaptor cable in juuuust the right place. Unfortunately even a very brief disconnect causes a pause in playback so for a while I stuggled with just constantly unpausing the music, but now it’s completely unplayable. Not very practical!

I’m using the official Fairphone USBC to 3.5mm jack adaptor cable as well, and I’ve tried it with other adaptor cables from other brands and exactly the same thing happens. It played absolutely fine for nearly a year.

Only physical symptom I noticed was that the adaptors were a little bit “wiggly” in the socket with quite a bit of give, though it always charged fine. Suspecting I had damaged the USBC port I bought a new one last week, swapped it out and had exactly the same issue.

Before I pay for yet another part (maybe something plastic snapped in the bottom unit though I can’t see any issues?) I thought I would ask if anyone else has any other suggests?

I really dislike bluetooth headphones and don’t want to change to them just to listen to music at work :frowning:

hello and welcome to the forum
could you do some more troubleshooting?
run the internal testing, for example.
Is data transfer stable?

Hello, thank you for responding. File transfer to my PC seems to be completely fine, even when wiggling the cable at the USBC port end. I tried to do the internal test, but it completely stalls out just after the touch screen test showing this. No prompts, touching the screen does nothing and there’s no way of moving it on. I have to tab out just to close the internal test app. I’ve tried twice now and get the same problem at the same point.

I eventually managed to get further into the internal testing by mashing the screen a lot. When I was on the external audio test it was exactly as before with the audio coming out of the headphones when the cable was in just the right position, but coming out of the phone otherwise. The audio coming out was a bit confusing as well as I don’t think it was English, so wasn’t sure how to proceed.
