Fairphone (generation 6) launched 25 June

Fairphone 5 according to gsmarena: 161.6 mm x 75.8 mm x 9.6 mm = 117593.088 mm³
(The official specs add 0.03 mm width to that.)

Fairphone 6 according to gsmarena: 164 mm x 75 mm x 8 mm = 98400 mm³

So, fun fact: gsmarena says the Fairphone 6 will be about 16% less “gigantic” :person_shrugging: .

Edit after launch:
Fairphone 6 official: 156.5 mm × 73.3 mm × 9.6 mm = 110125.92 mm³

So, pretty similar in size, but about 6% smaller overall than the Fairphone 5, and not larger in any dimension.
There are two things to learn here:

  • Math
  • not going by non-official specs before launch

Whatever makes you stick with FP5 seems to fit the company’s concept very well :slightly_smiling_face:

So you dont understand the Fairphone’s philosophy if you idea is to buy the FP6 When you have the FP5.

You don’t need to understand FP’s philosophy to buy and promote Fairphones. Maybe people with a FP5 understand the philosophy and ignore it and maybe just buy a new phone because of a new color.

Official? Where did you find those?

FP is preparing its website for FP6, so they are from the FP website (but they are not yet - publicly - visible anywhere).

EDIT: There was no illegal activity involved. ^^

Today the following video was sent by e-mail to those of us who subscribe to the newsletter.

The claim is:

“It’s almost time. Let’s switch it up.”

In the comments on the video they make reference to the fact that turning the sound on in the video may give some clue. Perhaps it has to do with what looks more like a switch than a button in the lateral of the phone? Some kind of privacy switch to “kill” hardware access (cam, mic)?

Although it probably also refers to the possibility of changing the rear modules posted a few posts above.

We’ll know :eyes:

I know but when you choose a Fairphone, it’s not to change every version.

What I hear is like (mild) city life sounds first, then nature sounds after a CLICK sound.

ANC without headphones?

Sounds like an iPhone style mute switch

My 5.5 year old FP3 just died last week… is it a sign to go for the FP6 ?
By the way, I found the following yesterday while googling to see where I would be able to buy it:

Edit: the link does not work anymore today, 25 June 2025, not a surprise

At least there is an extra SIM tray as a spare part. And the thing has a rubber ring (waterproofness or just for dust?).

… See a pattern? Let us be happy for chronological numbering

Edit: that was all it seems, doesn’t go on :frowning:

The last picture is from FP5 (at least thats whats printed on the label).

If this is true, I can at least pitch Fairphone to my partner again, who yearns for smaller phones :joy: (although it sounds pretty minor)

Never heard of POLED.

Noticed smth strange in the spec section. This MUST be an error?!

Yes, I noticed this too. Most probably an error. Unless Fairphone has something else to unreveal
We’ll see tomorrow.
