Hey folks,
While my FP2 is still working (even though it is getting older and slower and little deficiencies are accumulating), I’m interested in the new Gen. 6 Fairphone. Besides the ever-increasing amount of fair or recycled materials in Fairphones, I like the reduced physical dimensions (in comparison with the FP5) and the nice 7s Gen 3 SoC, whereas I don’t think “Fairphone Moments” will be interesting for me. I regret that there is no transparent back cover.
However, I realised that the FP6 has only USB-C Type 2 which does not allow a dedicated desktop mode, cf. Q&A at FP6 support page.
As I’m not rather technically informed, I would like to ask what exactly is meant by the limitation to USB 2:
My questions are:
- What is meant by “dedicated desktop mode”?
- Can the FP6 be connected to an external screen or is this not at all possible? In the case it is possible, what will be displayed on the screen? Probably just a mirrored view of the smartphone screen.
- Is it possible with the USB-C type 2 to connect the FP6 to a docking station and to connect this docking station with a screen, a keyboard, a computer mouse and a headset (and other peripheral devices) simultaneously?
- For future perspectives: Is it imaginable that e.g. in two years the FP6 will be upgraded to USB 3? Is this technically feasible or is it completely unrealistic?
I would be thankful for clarifications.
Nice regards!
