Hi,
Do you think they do that to clear stocks and announce a Fairbuds XL 2 ?
I would not interpret the discount in that way. Discounts on the Fairbuds XL of the same extent have been there before, although in combination with a Fairphone if my memory is right. (Right now I am too lazy to scroll further up to find it ) On the product itself, I have some mild hope that unlike the phones themselves, the Fairbuds XL might allow for incremental hardware upgrades (read: parts) that would put into question if a new model number is justified.
I have no real reason for that only a gut feeling but here it is: perhaps regular fairbuds (even if launched later) would get an upgrade faster than an XL version
After quite a while, the Protective Bundle deal (FP5 with screen protector and protective case included) is back until mid-March, both at the Fairphone Shop: Fairphone Promotions … as well as at dealers: https://promotions.fairphone.com/ (some of these extend the deal beyond mid-March)

Fairphone 5 with Fairbuds included
Until 13 April, every new Fairphone 5 purchase in the Fairphone Shop qualifies for a(n optional) pair of Fairbuds added to the purchase for free. Smallprint: Fairphone Promotions and Offers - Fairphone
This offer is also valid for several dealers, however their deadlines vary.

FP5 permanent price drop –> € 500 / 580
As the Fairbuds deal expired (at the Fairphone Shop, it might still be active in a few dealers’s shops, feel free to check), I noticed that the Fairphone 5 is now marked as “from €499” (lower specs, the full 8GB/256GB cost €80 more).
I have no insight into Fairphone’s planning, but their most recent four phone releases (2019: FP3, 2020: FP3+, 2021: FP4, 2023: FP5) all occured in late August or later in autumn.
Just had a look after receiving this kinda lame ‘mistake’ email, and now it feels my owned blue edition is getting extinct
you can still get a blue cover though…
do you think it might come back? it does not say ‘out of stock’ and the wording feels final
I did not track it that much in detail, but I am very certain that all individual FP configurations were available quite a long time even after the FP
had been launched. So it would at least be remarkable if the sky blue FP5 would be discontinued this early.
Then again, the FP4 only ever came in three varieties (grey, green, speckled green) while the FP5 came (eventually) in a total of five (black 8GB, black 6, transparent 8, sky blue 8, green 6), so each individual variety might have never been produced in as large numbers as the FP4 ones.
In this Dutch interview published recently (read the translated version) it was mentioned that FP faced some issues in the past with the abundance of spare parts for FP4.
They managed somehow but still, the blue edition has a different frame (as the green one does), so perhaps that’s the way of minimising the risk of small scale production.
Now I need to protect the frame even more:D it might become a unicorn:D
