Fairphone 6 screen glitch

Hello fairphone forum,

I got the Fairphone 6 (with android) about a week ago, and I have been having issues with the touchscreen. At random times, the screen will not register my taps (I have to press something twice or more for it to register) and some gestures will not work. It seems to get better for a while if I restart the phone, but I have not been able to identify any cause. I’m using the official screen protector that I got from the fairphone website, but I have not tried taking it off to see if it causes the problemi.e. I, because I’m not sure I would be able to attach it properly again.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is there anything I can do about it? It makes the phone quite frustrating to use sometimes.

Yes, I have also had this problem, it also started after I bought the official Fairphone 6 screen protector. I haven’t solved the problem yet, and now have a bigger one as the entire operating system is frozen, but I’d like to know the solution to your problem for when (hopefully) my problem is fixed.

I’ve reported this as a bug a few weeks back. There’s a workaround: lock the screen and unlock it again to unfreeze. Please report if this helps.

I have the same issue with the official privacy screen protector from the Fairphone online store.

Thanks for your reply. Locking and unlocking does seem to help for a while (though sometimes this issue makes unlocking difficult).

I have contacted Fairphone support, hopefully they will provide a solution soon!

I have the regular (non-privacy) screen protector, but it might be causing the same problem.

There’s a lot of speculation about screen protectors and it’s effect. I have the same issue without any screen protector, so it is probably not a reason or at least not the only reason for the problem.

Good to know. I don’t want to take it off without a good reason as it was quite expensive.

sad to hear that is also without any protection or privacyprotector. So then i will open up my ticket at the support and wait for a fix. Thx to the community for sharing.

I am having this exact problem. Did it work out for you guys? It drives me mad :grimacing: I have the official FP6 Screen protector as well.

I ended up sending my phone in to fairphone support, and they replaced the phone and sent my a new screen protector.

I used the new phone for a day without the protector, and I didn’t notice this problem. Then I added the protector and it started happening again eventually.

So I think the problem is either a software issue (that just didn’t happen on the day I didn’t use the protector), or due to the screen protector. I suspect it’s the software though.

I’ve just gotten used to it, it happens maybe once a day and apart from that it’s still a good phone.

right after I attached the new protector it happened a lot, and I realised the protector wasn’t attached properly - I was able to somewhat mitigate the problem by using the “card tool” that comes with the screen protector kit and pressing the protector down more strongly. So this might help some people.

I started having this problem after the latest software update. And it is quite strange because I am typing and then the keyboard stops registering, or scrolling and then I just can’t go on.
Will contact support when chat opens next week.

The same here! I bought the FP6 in January and I didn’t have this issue, but after the latest update, I also experience it. Very annoying.

Thank you for the replies! I suppose you (eb22) reckon there’s no use in handing it in for support/repairment? I am sad to hear that so many relate but I am also glad to hear I am not alone  I’d rather accept it and deal with it when it happens (and hope that it gets better) than sending it in.

At least for me, sending it in for repairs didn’t help. So I don’t think it’s worth it.

It might help to restart the phone more often, and make sure the screen protector is fully pressed down.

Alright, I’ll do that. Thanks!

Same issue here, never had that before. Started after latest update.

I am also encountering this very annoying issue. No screen protector. Locking and unlocking the screen always solved it for a bit. Would be great to see this issue recognized.
